Hello.
I decided that I will try my hand at dual sport riding.
I bought a new 2016 Honda CRF250L, because Honda.
New to dual sports, new to dirt. Old time street/track rider.

Can't seem to find a thread(s) on local MX/dual sport training, tool kit/repair items, and top bike upgrades.
I want to get in on these bike rides in South Texas area.
Somebody point me in the right direction.... please.

Launchpad.

Welcome!

I can't suggest any training for off road riding, as I've never done any. There may or may not be anything local.

Tool kit wise I would suggest wrenches, etc for most major fasteners on the bike (its a smaller number of tools than you think). Wrenches for the axles, spare tubes, tire spoons, and an air compressor are also included in my on bike tool kit.

I'd leave the bike alone and ride it for a bit. You may find it needs an ergonomic upgrade or 2, and a tank, tail or small saddlebag set is good for tools and spares. I use the Giant Loop Mojavi bags on my DR650.

Keep an eye on the upcoming rides forum in both the general and dual sport sections. There's usually something going on on the weekends. There's a meet tonight (not necessarily dual sport related) at La Hacienda on Telge road. I'll be there, but on my Ducati rather than the DR.

Hope to see you around sometime!

Welcome!

As far as dirt classes, I'd check out UlyBrad's (forum and IXL Rider on Facebook) and BillDragoo.com.

The West-Central Houston Dual-Sport group meets every other Wednesday night at 7pm. We meet tomorrow night.
Hope you can join us! http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93459

That should get you started.

If you plan to ride any of the trails in the Sam Houston NF, you will need an OHV sticker. You can get them at most bike shops I think, but I know you can get one at Cycle Shack North in Conroe for sure. I think they are $16 now, or close to that.

Nailed it!
This is exactly what I was looking for.
I will keep my eyes open for group rides through SHNF or off road.
Thanks bunches.
