John "rtprider" Petty - RIP

Howdy,

I just found out that John suffered a fatal heart attack 9/25/18. He used to be fairly active with our Conroe/Montgomery area bike nights. He had moved to Louisiana a few years ago for work and had not been real active on the forum of late. I was still friends with him on Facebook but had not realized I'd not seen any activity from him in the last month just because that comes and goes according to FB's mysterious algorithms...

He leaves behind two grown daughters. He had been divorced for some time.

He was always a cheerful and fun guy. He was not old either, maybe in his late 50s at best. Sure hits close to home.

Apparently his daughters just now got him back to Texas. I have no idea if there will be any services here. If I find out anything, I will post it up here.

RIP John!

Sure does hit close. I had my cardiac episode in 2014 and have been working hard at getting as fit as my heart will allow. I'm thankful to be back to around 65% and keep pushing for more. I'm grateful to the owners of the river company for taking me at my word that I can do the job and giving me the chance to do so.

In May of 2014 I was very close to having a thread like this written about me. Sorry to read about John.

Funeral info from John's daughter's Facebook Page:

Quote:
Heather and I were finally able to plan Dad's funeral service. It's been a long process waiting for him to come home to Texas and then losing our Granmother (his mom) last week. Also throw in seasonal colds for both of us.

Dad's service will be held at Conroe Funeral Directors in Conroe, TX next Friday November 16 at 5pm.

Re: John "rtprider" Petty - RIP

I was sad to hear the news of John's passing. John was the first person I met when I started attending Montgomery Bike Night a few years ago. Probably due to my upbringing, I am terrible at keeping up with people. John was a very interesting person to talk with. I didn't know him long before he moved, first to Richards and then to Louisiana, but I enjoyed the few times I had dinner with him. Rest in peace, John.
