*** SOLD *** 1973 CJ-5 JEEP for sale

For sale is a great condition CJ5.
1973 all original except alternator .
4 speed , straight 6.
Seats in great condition, no rips or blemishes, re- done couple years ago.
Like new "Best Top" cover and doors.
No rusted through floorboards. Nice and straight body.
Fuel gauge and windshield wipers do not work. Windshield motor still works though.

Had been inspected and tagged, not current, but will pass no problem. We just have driven around the farm.

We are not driving it enough to keep it in garage. This is a collector, hard to find jeep in this good of condition.

$3750

Re: 1973 CJ-5 JEEP for sale

Hmm...been thinking about a convertible lately but this wasn't what I had in mind. Interesting though.

A few probably dumb Jeep questions as I'm clueless on them.
  • Does the windshield fold down on this like the old military model?
  • Since a receiver hitch is installed is this capable of towing at freeway speeds or is that for farm use only? Any idea of the rated tow limit?
  • What mpg do you get? What is gas tank capacity?

Not my Jeep but I have owned about a dozen of the older ones including a CJ5 like this.

Yes, the windshield folds down.

IT can tow, but not what I would call freeway speeds. This is a short coupled 1/4 ton vehicle and not design for heavy loads. Small trailers would be ok up to about 60-65 mph.

The tank is a little over 10 gallons and get about 14-16 mpg.

Cj's, yj's and whatever the current version of the wrangler is called, still have folding windshields.
One of those interesting traditional things they are committed to keep doing.

Re: 1973 CJ-5 JEEP for sale

I once heard the older models like this had much beefier drive trains than the newer ones made after Chrysler took them over. This was something that made the older jeeps more sought after than the newer jeeps for serious off-roaders. Any truth to that?

Thanks for the info. If above correct or close then kills my interest as I wasn't planning to use it as a toy but as a do everything DD. I do too many long drives so this range and mpg wouldn't work for me. My thinking was a lightweight non emissioned older vehicle would be much higher than this.

Re: 1973 CJ-5 JEEP for sale

Go for it!
I got a '93 YJ and it's better than a convertible, IMHO, unless you really want some curve hugging sports car. Matter of fact, with the doors off, it's even better than a convertible. I have the hard top off for the season and picked up a nice rain cover that goes on in <3 min. (jeepcovers.com) They really are a blast for around town cruising and yes, for going off road.
(and Jeepers wave at each other like bikers do. )

This is a 40 year old jeep, stock. If it was set up for long distance it would be worth 10 times what we are asking for it. We trust the engine for running around locally, but it is really a toy.

Hate to say it but a Toyota Prius might be better for what your looking for. But their more than $3750!

Well I guess I would drive this jeep from here to Alaska, it would be like riding a DR 200 there. If you weren't worried about getting there quick, no powersteeering, or no AC, it would be fine.

Prius is out, they cant haul or tow anything. Wasn't expecting 50mpg but was hoping something mid 20'ish. That would make range and economy liveable. Like I said I'm a Jeep newb and have never researched. Sure would like to have it as a part time vehicle but no space same as you. Still very tempting though as an excellent price.
