Re: Cold weather riding?
Living on the gulf coast, I couldn't justify investing in Gerbings gear but my designated vacation time is the 2 weeks after Christmas and everything is north of me. So I did a google search or 2 and figured out how to make my own electrics - just to see how I'd like it. I have used my homemade gear 5 winters and traveled 27 states. My record low temp is 17f and I did not feel cold at all - while I was jacked in.
I think I'm hooked. ![]() http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51475 A good winter outer layer is essential too. The Kilimanjaro is a great jacket. You'll need similar insulated riding pants. Up top I wear a Schampa shielded chin guard and a Respro Foggy in the helmet so my breath has a clear exit. Sidi On Road boots and smartwool socks keep my feet warm down to 30f, then I don my heated insoles. I love my new ReV'it! Alaska gloves with or without my heated liners. Held Freezer or Dianese Jericho are great gloves too - that is if you don't just break down and buy Gerbings. Heavy poly thermals from Army Surplus work well too and they're a bit cheaper than Under Armor. Winter touring has opened new vistas for me - I love it so much more than summer. ![]()
