Up and down stairs definitely counts. I used to that myself until I was moved to a new building. On site fitness center now so I can work out at lunch. Loving it!

Re: Aging and motorcycling

I went the cruiser route (Yamaha Royal Star) a few months ago. I never thought that would happen but my knees said otherwise. I guess if the cruiser gets too heavy, I'll try the maxi (or perhaps 'midi') scooter. As it turns out, I'm really liking the Royal Star but I have had to make some adjustments to my riding style. The wifey and I have talked for years about getting a convertible as a third car so maybe that's the ticket...

Re: Aging and motorcycling

I think I'm getting older , intended to make fly in at Jefferson , Norton Club Rally at the other end of the lake and the Guzzi Rally in Lindale....

Weather and arthritis stopped any hope of going to any of them...

Looks like I'm going to restore our old 86 Mustang 5.0 ,5 speed, GT conv which followed our motorhome for 90% of the 65 K miles showing on it...Top ,heater and A/C would be handy...NO ! I'm Keeping My Bikes for those perfect days...

Re: Aging and motorcycling

I've decided to go to the smaller bike. Traded the Honda ST1300 for a Yamaha WR250R. Huge change but I still have the VSTrom, also. I REally like the dual sport. Lots of fun, and something new cause I have stayed off dirt and gravel. However, I am now getting back pain after an hour of riding, so now I have to figure out why? No windscreen, riding position, age, lighter bike and just get more stress on my back from the rougher ride.

Sheesh, I was thinking it was hard to climb the tree this morning. I'm 51, but getting dirty on the bike doesn't sound so bad after reading some of this pablum....

Re: Aging and motorcycling

I'm 57 and too dumb to realize I need to slow it down. I've been riding since getting a Yamaha 60 for my 13th birthday and now ride a BMW K1200R for fun. I ride with guys my age that also have a need for speed. I low-sided a few years ago and had my doctor lecture me about not being 18 anymore. My chicken strips are getting wider. But what has made me realize more than anything I'm slowing down is snow skiing. I used to go as fast and I could, but crashed and had a mild concussion last year and came to realize that, in fact, I'm not 18 years old anymore. But I'll be darned if I ever get on 3 wheels. I'll get a mini-bike if need be.

Re: Aging and motorcycling

I quit mini racing and flat track back about 2006 only because I didn't have good hospitalization insurance anymore. But, I'll be 60 on the first and I've got no plans to quit riding. I will perhaps downsize my ride in the future, more because I'm not touring anymore, not on the bike, and a smaller bike will be easier to load in the back of a pickup when the travel trailer is hitched up. I'm thinkin' 250cc Dualsport.

But, no, so long as I can half way ride, I'll not be quitting and I don't see trikes in my future, though I have owned and really like sidecar rigs. Ural, maybe?

Great, just bought me a mini a few weeks back, but only for ripping around, and laughing at my buds on it.

Well, in 6 years I'll be Medicare eligible. Maybe I'll dust off some racers and make a come back.

I'm old enough to be your Daddy! I'm not the rider I was back in the 60's and 70's on my Maicos and such but I'm still riding. Just a bit slower.
