Re: Educate me on 250 dualsports
BRING IT ON! Just because I've decided I don't need one right now don't mean I don't like hearing about how great they are and seeing pix of bike porn like John's! And, heck, I STILL ain't ruling out a 250 for the future, just not real soon.

I just got back from Around the Bend. What a fantastic event! I rode my WR250R and it was very very happy in the desert. I saw so many WR250Rs around that I think it was the Official Bike of Terlingua this year.

Re: Educate me on 250 dualsports
Thanks guys for saying something nice about my bike (the CRF250L), I'm really enjoying it. All I wanted to say here is that I have really enjoyed my KLR 650's that I've had in the past and probably going to buy another just for the longer road trips and if there is a dirt road to go down, I'm ready for it to. Biggest reason for another 650 is you can load it down and still have a little power to get you down the road, but I'm not selling the CRF250L, great bike for what it is. Dual Sport riding has always been a two bike thing for me, one a little better off road and the other a little better on road, these two bikes will work for me. Wouldn't a KLR 650 with fuel injection be great. At 67 I'm not a power bike rider anymore, but I still like to hit the dirt now and them.

I've always gravitated to small motorcycles. I had a GS1000 back in the day, but really preferred smaller street bikes. Smaller has more bonuses off road. I have raced big superbikes, wasn't very good with 'em. You had to steer the things with the throttle. I came up on RD Yamahas in road racing, graduated to TZ250s and those things were LIGHT and FAST. They handled wonderfully. One used corner speed with a 250, didn't steer it with the throttle. Trail braking was made easy on one, considering the great brakes they had and something over 200 lbs stops quicker than 400-500. When I got back into road racing in 99, I could no longer afford 250s. The cost of 'em went stupid over the years, so I got a 125. At 190 lbs, I outweighed the bikes which were 160 lbs. I had a TZ125, sold it for an RS125 which had more motor. 130-140 mph always seemed fast enough on the banking and the thing was a laser cornering. THEN, I got into minis with a KX80 and my XR100s. No, I never really liked big, overweight motorcycles, all motor. I was never power hungry, preferred nimbleness. Of course, I did have that old GL1100. I don't consider V Stroms or BMW GSs or such "dual sports", adventure tours, but not dualsports, but the KLR IS cow trail capable.....sorta.... But, it's still a big overweight chunka steel compared to a smaller bike. Smaller bikes are MUCH more fun off road.Down the road, yeah, I could see a good used 250 coming my way.
