Took the long way home since dealership doesnt open till 9 and I needed to pickup some parts. They were doing a Slingshot demo day so I got to take one of those for a spin too.

After this week's torrential rains, the flowers and trees were smiling with greeness. I took a zip around the hill country and enjoyed the cooler weather.

Re: Post your Day Rides Here!

Saturday was a busy day and I had no plans to ride but, I need to go to a benefit BBQ for a young man in my local community. I have known his family for most of my life and wanted to show support for him and his family. The event was at Schroeder Hall, the second-oldest dance hall in Texas, was constructed and opened for business in 1890. I decided to put the top box on the Strom and go grab a few plates to go. Now Schroeder Hall is only 11 miles from house according to Google or Garmin. I however was going to use my trusty GPS (Gary Positioning System) as it is far more familiar with the back roads of the area and generally manages to at least double the distance to local locations.I was just about ready to walk out the door when my son Colton arrived home.

Colton recently took the MSF basic course. He has not gotten the M on his license yet as he has to take a riding test at the DMV since he is under 18 and time constraints with school have prevented the testing. I recently acquired a WR250R for his first road going bike. I think to myself as he passes me in the kitchen, this is great opportunity for him to get his feet wet riding on the road. So I say gear up and ride with me to grab some BBQ plates. He says on the Strom and I say no on your bike. Wide eyes and a smile on his face but a hint of reservation in his voice. I assure him and his mother that he will be fine with out the "M" on his license.

I give a few instructions and we head out. I can tell he is a little nervous we first take off. I set a nice easy pace watching him in my mirror. He did really well and begin to loosen up a flow as time went by. We only did about 35 mile total but, he got his feet wet and is better prepared for his riding test. I hope to have many days rolling along with Colton.

I cant believe I only took one pic. Here is downtown Meyersville, Tx in front of the general store.

MEYERSVILLE
Community opened by Peter Bluntzer, an 1843 settler drawing many others from Alsace; named for Adolph Meyer, an 1846 arrival, at whose home post office was established (1851). Lutheran and Catholic churches were founded in 1850s. Public school opened in 1899. Famous turkey-producing area. Population reached peak about 1923.
The marble plaque near the top of the store says it was founded in 1868 and this building was 1917.

I was on call this weekend, so had to stay close to the house. I went and found some muddy backroads to play on:

Then went out to the lake:

Then back to Maypearl to meet some buddies for a breakfast taco:

Re: Post your Day Rides Here!

Well, BobFelicci finally gave me a call and we met up for a nice evening ride after the rains let up. Had a great time...but I THOUGHT he had seen the last video because he brought an awfully big bike out into the muck.

The video is on my Google Drive: https://goo.gl/nKgyod

Nice! I want to try something like that on my Africa Twin.

I figure if the NC700x can make it, the AT should be able to.

Re: Post your Day Rides Here!

After missing the Tenere-acity of Strom-a-thon and the Junction ride due to weather, I couldn't resist taking advantage of the good weather on Monday and Tuesday to make a quick trip to the Mena, Arkansas area.

The Talimena Scenic Byway was fairly deserted, perhaps because it was a weekday, and not everyone is retired.

While there were quite a few RVers, I was the only tent camper at Queen Wilhelmina State Park.

No other tourists were at the old fire tower either.

I was wishing for my canoe and fishing rod when I rode to a remote section of the Ouachita River.

The views on the byway are quite nice.

I love to ride up in the Ouachita National Park area. We usually ride out around the Mt. Ida area because the paved roads are spectacular and so are the dirt logging roads. Falls on the little Missouri are real pretty as well.

Re: Post your Day Rides Here!

Got out Saturday for some Tour of Honor pictures. Conroe and Huntsville UH-1s and a doughboy in Lufkin. On the advice of a friend, I stopped in at the Angelina County Airport Cafe. I highly recommend the cheeseburger. Worth the stop.

Re: Post your Day Rides Here!

The cheeseburger and chips (I drank water) was $5.88. Even the KLR guys would think this is a good deal.
