Re: 2017 MexTrek #6, Oct 26th to 29th 2017

Looks like its finally time to quit lurking and join the party. I've been wanting to make a run into Mexico on the bike and can't think of a better first trip than with a big group that's done this before. I love the country and have driven several times from Houston to our house in San Miguel de Allende, but have never ridden in on a motorcycle. Count me in!

I guess the first post lowdown is obligatory as well. I grew up racing motocross and some hare scrambles then got away from bikes for a while. Picked up a like new 2001 BMW F650 Dakar about three years ago and started commuting to work every so often and running around backroads and a couple trips into the SHNF. Have been wanting to run into Mexico and even further at some point and think this is going to be a great first ride and just whet the appetite for more. Looking forward to it!

I was just awarded 16 hours of extra vacation for "appreciation" of me doing my job. Count me in. I'll sign in and pay this weekend.

Well, I'm new to bikes and new to the forum. My buddy uttlc above finally convinced me to bite the bullet. Got my license a few weeks ago and picked up a 2012 G650GS last weekend. Have already put a few hundred miles on her, ready to tackle more. I'll be doing many miles of both street and dirt riding in the next few months in preparation for the ride. Will also be accumulating gear for both the bike and myself. Registering now and looking forward to it!

Stay after. We will be riding an additional 3-4 days between Galeana and Monterrey near the waterfall, the canyon, Santiago, Parque National. Gonna try renting river cabins one night, downtown hotel another, and high mountain cabins in the park the third.

Welcome. Mexico on a bike is a whole new world. Think endless medium paced hare scramble, fully supported, with great food, nice hotels, and no law enforcement. The hardest part of this ride for you will be resisting the temptation to continue all the way down to SMA. Last year on the Jalpan ride my son and I continued west on highway 120 to SMA and Guanajuato and spent a week there while I recovered from a nasty crash. Coming home was the hard part!

But seriously, you already know Mexico...well at least the town we call "Gringolandia". This trip hand-holds you through how to get you and your bike into Mexico, across the border legally and safely, and into the mountains with no drama. Do this once and you'll be a border crossing expert and will be teaming up with like minded riders for future trips. No words can explain how great Mexico is to motorcyclists.

FWIW, my son is going to study in Guanajuato this summer. I'll be riding down with him in June to "drop him off", then flying home, then flying back to "bring him home" in August. Can't wait. Maybe you'd care to join us?

You should consider the "Around the Bend" rally March 23rd as a preperation trip for Mexico. Plus, its a really really cool trip.

Dennie, great to hear you're coming. Is it you and Linda both? If so, get a private room.If not, there are 3 or 4 rooms with 3+ single beds, for $10 a person per night.

Everett Fox, who you know from TMGP, will need a roomie.

But to answer your question, go ahead and call and make a reservation. It's best we book the whole hotel one by one and as we decide who doubles up we can cancel.

Travis and Chris are registered and paid!!!

20 confirmed, registered, paid riders.

10 "going".

30 is a good size for staying organized, but having critical mass size and a group for everyone to fit in with.

Do I HAVE to room with Everett?

Wish I could make it, but have prior plans. I was down in Big Bend area at Christmas and would love to ride down there.

I split out my drink. Haha. There are lots of cool guys on the forum to bunk with.

But we need someone to ensure Everett gets his half of the group to the hotel on day 1. Who better than his roomie. I'm pseudo nominating you to be our ride guide's "chaperon" since you know how he's wired. Sometimes the riding fun is just to hard to contain.

Or not, haha.

I haven't been able to keep up with Everett for the last few years, but I'll try one more time.

Re: 2017 MexTrek #6, Oct 26th to 29th 2017

Add me in for the additional Oct30 to Nov 1 part. Never been to Mexico. From what I have read online, it seems like I can get to the border early on the 24th and get the visa and bike registration at the border. Just takes some time. Is this right ? Thanks.
