Re: Undenting Pipe

Here's a link that shows how and why an expansion chamber works. Notice how it's not the exhaust pressure but the shock wave that 'hammers' the unburned fuel against the exhaust port. It must be an engineering nightmare to twist the pipe around backwards to experience the same results as a straight tuned pipe.

It also fascinates me how you can modify the intake manifold on a 2T (increase or decrease the distance from the carb to the engine) and dramatically alter when the engine gets on the pipe (powerband). An RZ/RD racing trick.

I just finished a 15 hour overnight shift so I maybe a little blurry is, but I had an idea I wanted to ask.

If you drain a gas tank very well and use the same principles that were just shown in the above video, would that work to pop the familiar handlebar dents on the sides of a gas tank?
Something to consider... And yes I may be the guinea pig who actually tries this out

Re: Undenting Pipe

Rman, thank you for that link. That is the best representation of a 2 stroke that I have seen so far.

Well, in principle, yes. You can always try the hairspray/starting fluid method. Please have vid camera rolling!!!

Key words ; In Principle.

Inflate a Tire with Liquid Fire TRICK - YouTube

No thanks - That is not exactly the right analogy.......I wonder what the hairspray would do??? I have a pretty good idea what the lighter will do.
Like Rman said - in principle.
This idea seemed do-able so I looked all around the web. That's the great thing about the internet - no matter what stupid/ brilliant idea you have - someone has already thought of it , done it and filmed it. LOL
I got this idea from some PDR guys. I have done just a little bit of it and my thinking was that once the metal was stressed from some type of impact - it would be weaker. My plan was to fill the gas tank with air (SLOWLY) and hopefully the indented parts would expand - just like a deflated soccer ball.
What I found out - LOL (YES - others had tried it also) was that the gas tank will expand as a whole - like a human lung. So unfortunately I think this idea is dead. Even though I have a spare tank with the familiar handlebar dent - I can see that this will not work. In fact the only way that I could see this idea working is to have the actual gas tank mold/form encasing the metal tank and slightly raise pressure until it re-aligns with the walls of the mold. And since modern tanks are not made with molds - I am rambling.
Oh well - it was an idea.

Re: Undenting Pipe

Hey - I don't know if your pipe is still bent but I came across a video where a guy fixed his dented muffler with a air compressor and a propane torch. I hope this helps you.

I've regretted saying that. Just embellish the story a little and keep the dent. It gives the bike character.
