Re: Super Tenere insurance

You can be like me age 67, clean driving record, and a fine upstanding person in the community (ha ha) and still get high rates for insurance if the company that you insure with rates your bike high on their list. I'm not going to go into rates because each person has there own qualifying criteria they are rated on and you can't compare one person with another. I've always checked the insurance premiums before purchasing a motor vehicle of any type, and yes I have changed my mind on buying certain vehicles just because the premium was too high. I can tell you that Goldwings and BMW's are the lease expensive to insure, I'm sure it's because of their low loss ratio and the drivers driving records for such bikes. Some companies that insure bikes give you a second bike discount which like Progressive you get the second bike at very little more cost to you, this could work in your favor on certain bikes, but say State Farm they insure each bike separate and no second bike discount. Remember what works for one may not work for another for all the reasons above, so where one person may get a good premium price the other may not, because it's "YOU".

Re: Super Tenere insurance

I'm suffering a bit of sticker shock right now. Just called progressive and they want to raise my rates 400/yr from an '09 1200RT to the Tenere. I don't get it. The BMW is more expensive to replace and will run circles around this Tenere as far as performance is concerned. Guess I'll be shopping around. At 37 with no accidents and one non moto ticket 3 years ago, that seems crazy. Also, this bike is essentially the same at my my GS that I had and yet it's 400 more per year. Again, I don't get it.

I went all over the place until someone gave me this agent's number from Nationwide

817-426-5055 They are in Burleson but gave me the best deal which was similar to my ST1300 w/GEICO.

The SuperTen was so new they all wanted to classify it as a sport bike.

Re: Super Tenere insurance

Any "new" model that doesn't show up in their database always befuddles insurance companies, they tend to classify any of them in the worst possible category until the data builds, the motor size was probably the only thing they look at in a new model, with a motor that big it must be a Hayabusa. They ignore the fact that many models like the Tenere has existed for many years in markets outside the US and could extrapolate data of the model from companies in those countries....but they don't want to do that much work figuring something out.

Dairyland is the cheapest out of them all.

2005 FZ1
250/250 ded.

Geico = close to 1300 a year
Progressive (via USAA) = 1130 something
Dairyland = (last year 490 something) this year $537.xx

I'll be sticking with them for a while

My first quote with Markel was in the mid $700 range and I could not find any cheaper. It just renewed and it is down around $450 annual. It just took some time for the accountants to figure it out.

Ha! I called State Farm for a quote when I got my first motorcycle back in 2008. We had our house and every single car insured with them for 15 yrs. They told me "they only insured things involved in family activities". Those were their exact words. I started shopping for another carrier that very day.

Yeah, I got a cycle insurance quote from them when I bought a Suzi 1500LC back in 2003. The quote for a year was over $2,000. I had homeowner's and auto with the agent. When I picked myself up off the floor and asked why they told me they really didn't want to insure motorcycles but they will if I insist. I'm glad to see they are accepting the popularity of riding.
