It would depend on the suspension and how much he's packing. As long as you don't bottom out, it is not too bad. I had my 1150 GS running about 65 mph down Pandale Road out North of Pecos and we were launching off these erosion berms that crossed the road. I had Ohlins on it and even though the bike was loaded for adventure, the landings were silky smooth. It was great... until a deer ran out in front of me and I smacked its head with my left jug! I was fine. It died. Ironically, that ride was AFTER I had blown the rear shock seal earlier in the day on a harsh dip on the Willow City Loop road at about 50 mph. It squealed like a pig when it happened. I just thought the sound was me squealing after I squeezed the tank a bit hard with my legs to keep from going over the bars... By the time I got back home a few days later, the bike was bouncing like an old Caddy with blown suspension!

My 05 1200 GS landed pretty well also. I had Ohlins front and rear on it when we were hauling up Blue Water Canyon Road South of Weed, NM. This road was really narrow compared to the Pandale Road, and a good bit rougher. The berms had those big washed out potholes on the back side of them and rolling through them wasn't much fun. So just before the berm I'd gas it hard and shift back a bit to launch off them. The bike would clear them easily and the landings were smooth. I kind of slipped into a rhythm, one of those times when you become one with the bike and your sense of time just goes away. It was all too soon when we reached the Weed Cafe for lunch.

My current 07 GS hasn't spent much time being ridden like that. But it too has the Ohlins front and rear, which makes a WORLD of difference!! I had Sarah riding with me, loaded with all three hard cases, on a week long trek through Utah and Colorado with Rsquared, ToeJam, and Jfink. We got into some fairly rough stuff (no jumps) and the bike handled it fine. I did have to talk to Sarah over the intercom just to keep her chilled until we were through it

Get the suspension right and it changes everything!
