Re: New member in Fort Worth by way of Paris TX

Hello rawhide you are correct (about the BMW dealer) and I just want to throw a little shout out to the BMW fellas in Hurst. Was over there Saturday with the 1200GS and even though I didn't buy it there, they were awesome and did everything in their power to make me comfortable. Great place.

Hey Jason. Glad you made your way to the site. Great people here and if you ever need a riding buddy or are in a fix these guys/gals really go out of there way to help.

For everyone on here already, this is my prosthesist who made my new leg. Did a darn fine job as you can see.

Sorry, just had to give a shout out

Welcome to the forum, just remember that the 800GS is a heavy and tall bike so riding off road will take some practice. Putting your foot down on uneven ground will end up with some fall overs, so stick with the smoother dirt roads and work up to the uneven stuff in time. I would always recommend that you start off with a lighter bike in the 250-400 range to learn to ride off road, but since you have a monster bike just take it slow. Good Luck.

I know its a big bike but I'm 6'4'' 300lb with a background in cross country racing . My main problem is I have hardly any experience on the street and its been 23 years sense I rode a motorcycle on the dirt . I was looking at the 1200 gs and talked my self down to the 800 for easier trail riding. Thanks for the warm reception to TWT and I look forward to meeting everyone.

Didn't know you had all that experience and for your size that bike should not be a problem, hope to see you around.

I know a guy that 6' 8" and weighs in the mid 300s. He rides an R1150 GS A and it looks like a mid-sized dirt bike under him. I'm in South West Fort Worth, if you want to meet up some time and ride, let me know. I'm close to having my bike back together and working.
