Re: Drag racing

I like "watching" the NHRA Pro Bike class. I think the bikes finally get going in Gainsville Fl. in a few weeks.

Re: Drag racing

Drag racing a Z1000?? That is awesome

Squidward and I love to go watch drag racing, I like watching the bikes too...I don't know if watching the guys who know what they are doing is more fun, or watching the guys that think they know what they are doing is more fun....I think it's a toss up

We have gone to the 1/8 mile track in Kennedale to watch, and will probably be going to Ennis to watch some fun on the 1/4 mile track. I believe we will be headed there to watch the fastest street car shakedown at the end of March

Post some pics of you in action on the Z1k

Re: Drag racing

I do a lot of 1/8-mile bracket racing on my 2003 ZX7R. In stock gearing, I run 7.47 to 7.50. In race gears, 7.20s.

Dig that reaction time!

Re: Drag racing

Kawasaki makes their debut at Gainsville I believe... too bad they don't run the bikes at Ennis.

Re: Drag racing

I did it off season over in Dickenson, brackets, back in the day. I can't say it was all that fun, though, no corners. It was a way to ride my road racer RD350 when there was no road racing, helped the off season blahs, but didn't really cure it.

I went to Baytown to watch/report on a all Harley drags for Thunder Roads Texas a few years ago. Went over there a few times flat tracking (dirt motorcycle oval racing), but I'm not really into going straight. To each his own. I did quite enjoy watching the hogs do their thing, though. Some AWESOME machinery out there that day, and the answer to anyone who says Harleys are slow.

Re: Drag racing

Back in the mid-late 90's, I drag raced a ZX11 in Tulsa on Friday nights. It was a fun way to kill a few hours and look at cool bikes/cars. The tinnitus was just a fringe benefit!

It got old after a couple of years, though. I ended up seeing the same people bringing the same stuff to the strip all the time. I quit going about 8yrs ago and I haven't missed it.

Speaking as someone who's done both, I can tell you that roadracers who spend time at the dragstrip get more holeshots. Great way to improve the ol' launch.

Personally, I enjoy dragging a knee and bracket racing pretty equally, just in completely different ways.

That was precisely my logical reason for doing it, too. And, it did help. Getting a highly tuned 2 stroke motivating off the green flag is an art unto itself. It did help me a LOT with my starts. I've got a clip of myself coming off the fifth or sixth row of a mini race, second by turn 2 on the outside. That race had a lot of grunty four strokes in it, too. The flagger ain't as easy to predict as the christmas tree at the strip, but I have pretty decent reaction times. Have been known to meat ball a time or two, though.

What I've REALLY gotten addicted to is sliding around a dirt oval with a steel shoe, but I gotta cut back on that cause you can get real hurt real bad in flat track. Besides, mad dawg class is going to go up in power now that the CRF150R is out. If it's not over 150cc, it'll be legal. Not sure what they're going to do with it, but those things are supposed to be faster than 2 stroke 80s at the road races. My poor ol' 150cc XR100 stroker won't stand a chance.

Re: Drag racing

Definitely into the drag racing thing

BTW guys, I finally got my turbo and it's up and running! Thanks to everyone who donated and supported us in our effort...it looks like we may break 200mph in Goliad later this month (later than expected, but that's okay)! We are testing for the first time at San Antonio Raceway tonight...so hopefully I'll be "8secondjen" next time I post, lol!

Hey, do you know a guy named Brandon Wallace? He never misses a Texas Shootout. His bike is a stretched, red R1 -- an '04, I think. I believe he competes in the same class as you.

Just wondering.

Re: Drag racing

Hmm...Brandon Wallace, that name sounds very familiar. I'm sure I would recognize him if I saw him if he never missed a race. What class does he run in...9.5 index maybe? I ran in Street ET and 9.5 index last year with the busa, and a couple of the 1000ss races with a ZX10 courtesy of Team "Haul-N-***." I think they are going to hook me up with a GSXR 1000 this year for the rest of the AMA Prostar races...which will be really cool....I just gotta learn how to go faster than a 9.43 on a stock wheel base bike at 3 inches off the ground or I'll get my butt kicked, lol (of course I need more than 5 weekends of practice on one of those bikes to do that too).

The busa still needs some work, we need a different tire....couldn't get any traction lastnight...it was cold, and I am light and the tire we had was from last season...it still had plenty of tread, but it must have gotten too hard. It just wasn't hooking up AT ALL, and then it wouldn't shift since I was spinning We only did 4 passes because of the conditions and the LONG lines. There are a few other issues we need to work out too so we will do some research and do some more testing and tuning at the mile, and then probably take it back to San Antonio in April and see if we made any improvements.

I raced there the last few weeks abd had that trouble every time the sun went down. Not sure it's the tire... just a cold track.

Re: Drag racing

drag racer here both bike and cages... have run some shoot out stuff before but mainly bracket racing with Division four in NHRA. i have an old school GS750 that is now an 816... and as soon as she is back together than i recon i will juice her or slap on a turbo and let it eat...

as far as cagers go i have driven alot of different cars. our current and only cager is our Opel GT. NA 304cid and she runs 8.30's @165. i will try and post up some pics of the bike and the opel in a little bit. pop drives the opel now that i am too tall for the car...lol but i have been a hired gun so to speak for some time now. new to this site but it is very cool and i have enjoyed it very much...

great site Jen. good luck hitting the 8's but if you went turbo you might be suprised and pass the 8 second mark all together and hit 7's...
