Something to help valve adjustments go smoothly

Ever since I posted my videos on valve adjustment to The Superbike Blog a few months ago, I've gotten requests from readers to produce a valve adjustment sheet like the one I made on graph paper in the series. Well, here you go:

http://www.timkreitz.com/clientproof...tmentSheet.pdf

This sheet is designed for bikes with up to four cylinders and up to four valves per cylinder. Distribute at will, as this is a gift to all my fellow wrenchers out there.

BTW, if you want to see how I use this diagram or are unfamiliar with the valve adjustment process, click below:

Yep, they're almost always tight on the shim-under-bucket Kawis. I don't know why, either.

On the bright side, my friend and I did the first valve check on the Z-Rex last week and all the valves were in spec. I guess there's a first time for everything!

Well we should get together sometime. I do have a small group of trustworthy riders I motor with, and you're more than welcome to come check out the scene. I (and sometimes my wife) hang out at the usual Midland/Odessa bike gathering spots. I'll be at the Odessa Starbucks (42nd Street) tonight at around 9:30 if you wanna stop by. The group usually hangs until 11 p.m. or so on Wednesdays.

Re: Something to help valve adjustments go smoothly

Thanks for taking time doing this.

I'll be checking valves some time this month, once I organize the garage. I'll be doing fork seals, new springs, valves check, carb sync and cleaning, oil change, coolant change...am I missing something? The bike just reached 18,000 miles and I've never done any other maintenance than changing oil, lube chain and replace chain and tyres.

Don't forget hydraulic fluids. Front brake, back brake, and clutch if applicable.

Have fun!

Yep,

I am counting on that too. No hydraulic clutch but I will be lubing the cables: clutch, throttle, chocke (some of you may have forgotten what this was, but my bike still have it).

All my bikes have chokes. I've never managed to own an EFI bike. I didn't plan it that way -- it just happened.
