Thumbs up Dual Sport Ride May 23rd Bolivar to Sabine Pass Beach RIDE!!

Ok guys,

A group of Clearlake DS'ers are going on a beach run from bolivar to sabine pass on the Beach. I have heard of doing this but never have. Saturday the 23rd meet at FM 517 and I45 south at the shell station next to Mcdonalds at 9:00 am. Anyone that wants to meet up and take this ride or even lead the way sound off in this thread. Let's do this!!!

Aaron

Well my wife just reminded me that, that is the same weekend that my sons girlfriend graduates college. Not sure if I will be back on saturday in time to go.

Is there any place close to the meet-up point that I could leave my truck parked and not have to worry about it? I'd like to join the ride, but prefer to haul my bike closer to the starting point.

Hey, Aaron, you planning to ride down I-45? I just hate freeways on knobbies. Maybe cut across to 146, then south?

Hey, Roger. Glad you can come. Yeah, your truck should be fine at either the Shell station, or at the McDonalds. What are you riding?

Some business owners are'nt thrilled with unattended vehicles, and I'd hate to return and find my truck towed off. I'll be riding a 450 KTM.

Roger you could leave your truck at my place and then ride with us if you want. i live at hwy 146 and hwy 96 close to kemah. Just PM me and i can give you contact info.

Rob, riding south on 146 does sound better. It doesn't matter to me.

Rusty, not sure about changing the date (if every one wants to change the date then we can). I would be willing to do it again for sure if you cant make it.

Yeah, that's true, but I've always found if you just go in and let them know what you're doing, they are always cool with it. It would just be for a few hours. If we meet on the 146 side though, then there are a lot more places to park over there (Kemah boardwalk, Target, Walmart, Aaron's house )

Re: Dual Sport Ride May 23rd Bolivar to Sabine Pass Beach RIDE!!

Roger, you have a lot of offers. You can park at my place as well or there is Public boat dock where anyone can park for free at Hwy 270 and Clear Creek. There are always trucks with trailers parked there all day with no issues. Here is a link to that location Boat Dock on Clear Creek.

Let me know if you decide on either my place or the boat dock and we can ride down together.

By the way Aaron, I can't make the 30th, I have made a prior commitment for that day. But you should go with whatever the group decides.

Re: Dual Sport Ride May 23rd Bolivar to Sabine Pass Beach RIDE!!

We r still on for the 23rd. If enough interest we can schedule another for the 30th. We should have a good bunch of riders. Anyone done this before? Is there gas station at the sabine side without having to ride too far.? I will be taking some extra gas with me since my bike has only two gallon tank. I would like to fill up for the way back.

Re: Dual Sport Ride May 23rd Bolivar to Sabine Pass Beach RIDE!!

I might be able to go on the 30th as well if ya'll want to do it again. This trip will be longer than 2 hours just because it will take you about 45 min just to get across the ferry and then coming back it being a Holiday weekend it might take you longer to get back unless you head back early and beat the drunks.

There is a station just north 1/4 mile from where 124 & 87 merge at the beach @ High Island. No gas @ Sabine anymore, but you can go 87 north 12 miles through the 3rd light and that will be the closest station. Each way from 124 &87 to Sea Rim park is 23 miles. Should be able to turn around and go back before needing gas again.

I just made the trip from Sabine to High Island and back yesterday. Lots of trash starting to wash up on shore. Wire all over the place still but most of it is out of the way. Section of mud for about 3 miles, if too bad just go inland 100yds and get around it easy.

Just try not to wipe out in front of the Nudes......

I would love to come and meet everybody. But I am going to try to do the Adventure Quest - NW Arkansas May 23-24, 2009
But will be open for the 30th if you do it.

I really like this run, it is different everyweek and helps hone your skills in the sand and ruff ground.a
