That was a nice turnout.

And good to see you Brian.

And welcome Brock. Maybe coffee next time?

Thomas - here's a shot of the Ercoupe we were talking about

Yes it was a little windy but nice sunny day anyway. Glad you put some miles on. Supposed to be excellent this weekend too.

Re: Thursday Austin Lunch M&G - Billy's - 11:30

0630 at work I was looking at our schedule and making plans to pick up the bonnie from the shop and dropping in at billy's for lunch for my 2nd straight thurs in a while. 1530 and still stuck at work I was remembering why I shouldn't make plans or get my hopes up for leaving work early.

I well be at the JJ Pickle Research Center. Wonder if I can slip away Oh and speaking of pickles, I made a batch of the Buckhorn Fire Chips. They should be ready tomorrow after sitting in the fridge for three days.

Commuted to the office today which for me is half the battle of getting to Billy's for lunch.

Working today. With shift change at noon, lunch out of my territory is hard to manage. What time do you guys hit the coffee shop? A coffee stop is not out of the question if the timing is right.

I'm in a motorcoach today, needless to say that parking at Billy's is sort of cramped. Either I can come and park or every one else can.

Park like the beer trucks; on the sidewalk.

As for the coffee trailer, I'm thinking around 12:30-1:30 is about the usual time frame.

Dave, about a block west (just beyond the fire station) is a restaurant with a sizable parking area. I've parked my truck there before and walked to Billy's. Just a suggestion.

Great to see the Billy's regulars again! Afterward, coffee at Ken's trailer had a full turnout of GS...except my humble scooter.

BTW...spoiler alert, Scott sold his new 1150 GS Adventure. Mark's 200cc dual-sport looks more appealing to Scott.

Till next time.

Re: Thursday Austin Lunch M&G - Billy's - 11:30

In all fairness, it was an awesome bike - just not the 'right bike' for me though.

From posting it on CL and sending PM's to a few folks on ADVRider, it took less than 48 hours to post it, collect the funds and deliver it to the new owner. And I had three people offer to buy it in those 48 hours at my asking price.

Now before you all say I gave up on it too soon, I honestly thought about the size and weight when I test rode it, and it's been in the back of my mind from day one and 500 miles or so. Sure I can swap the shocks out and I can get the seat cut and remove the bar risers. But a standard GS already has all that stuff and fits me really well. I know this from experience. And longer down the road if I made those changes, the resale would probably take a hit since it's not 'tall' anymore.

But the real kicker was the weight. Either I've lost some more weight training for IRONMAN again, I've become weaker, or this really is heavier than the standard GS. TM pointed out it's like 77lbs heavier than a standard 1200GS. Between the larger fuel tank and added weight, and the metal Jessee boxes in the back instead of the plastic BMW city cases like my old one, then two gallons more fuel fuel load there's no way I was getting comfortable moving this around let alone have to ever pick it up. That sort of sealed the deal. It's just too big for me. I'm OK with that too.

So I'm thinking about looking at standard GS's again or actually going small this time around. I've always said a DR350 kitted out was in the cards, but I think I just want a bit more hp so I can keep up with everyone should I go that route. It's not about point A to point B these days, it's about enjoying time in the seat.

And yea, Marks little DR200 with it's magic button is attractive as well.

But I'm good with the decision. Life goes on.

pssst..... anyone know of a clean low miles '98 DR350SE, clear/clean title on the board for sale?

You need to consider a Ural. Honest. They are a blast and you can go off road without the fear of getting hurt. All the neighborhood kids will think you are cool

Scott,
You need to ride my F800GS for a few hundred miles and see what you think ! I am about your size I think and like you , the larger GS is just too big . I have a Goldwing for that and I can flat foot that thing ,,, the 800 is for adventure rides when I think I will be doing some gravel or a little bit of offroad stuff . My kawasaki Klx 450 r is for Big Bend and Arkansas rides . Let me know and I will make sure it finds its way to you for a couple of days .
