AUSTIN

Motorcyclist killed in crash

A motorcyclist was killed Monday in a single-vehicle wreck in South Austin.

Verdun Boone, 59, was driving south in the 7000 block of Woodhue Drive at about 3:20 p.m. when he lost control of a 2000 Harley-Davidson on a curve, according to the Austin Police Department.

The motorcycle swerved off the road near William Cannon Drive and hit a barrier of wooden posts and steel cable by El Buen Samaritano Episcopal Mission. Boone was thrown from the motorcycle.

He was taken to University Medical Center at Brackenridge, where he was pronounced dead.

Moped driver dies after collision

A moped driver died Saturday as a result of injuries he received in a South Austin crash Thursday.

Anthony Rellin, 24, was driving a 2002 Kymco south on South Lamar Boulevard at Ben White Boulevard when the driver of a 2009 blue Honda Civic traveling west on the Ben White service road ran a red light. The Civic struck the moped at about 1:22 a.m. Rellin was taken to University Medical Center at Brackenridge, where he died Saturday.

A Police Department spokeswoman said that no charges have been filed and that the case has been turned over the district attorney's office.

LIBERTY HILL

Motorcycle hit by truck; one killed

A man was killed Monday in Liberty Hill when the motorcycle he was driving was struck by a pickup.

Nicholas Crispell, 19, of Kingsland was driving west on Texas 29 at about 12:45 p.m. when a truck pulling out from Williamson County Road 214 failed to yield, according to the Liberty Hill Police Department.

The motorcycle had been reported stolen in Austin, the Police Department said.

Well, we know that motorcyclists get no respect from the law system. If you kill a motorcyclist, you get a slap on the wrist, at best.

I hope that the D.A. office is simply double checking their filings to make sure that they don't open a large loophole with a small error. Not stated in the news article is whether a citation for the red light infraction was issued. So we don't know the whole story of course.

Condolences for all who lost friends or family due to these wrecks.

Re: 3 accidents, 3 deaths in Austin vicinity

The last one is interesting, as they say the motorcycle was stolen.

While I don't say he should die for stealing the motorcycle, if I had caught him trying to steal mine, I would likely have shot him. But, that would be in the act. Guess he was riding it as if it were stolen.

I am curios as to how this one plays out. You can't get blood out of a turnip so the family loses all the way around. Drunk driver?

Crime doesn't pay. I feel for his family but when you do bone headed things like stealing, your asking for trouble. This time it was a fatal mistake.

Re: 3 accidents, 3 deaths in Austin vicinity

On the New8 website they have an article about the last one. They mentioned that the truck driver will get charged, but before they do that they are trying to figure out how fast the motorcycle was going because that could make a difference.

Sad for all unless there's no remorse. A sad reminder to us to be ever so alert, especially at intersections!

On the news last night, the only information given by the news anchor, Robert Hadlock, was that the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet. The sanctimonious way he said it irritated me quite a bit.

Nicholas Crispell was my cousin... He bought the bike legit, but aparently the guy he bought it from stole it... the truck wasnt yielding the right of way so he tried to lay the bike down to avoid it and the truck ran him and the bike over. i dont want anyone to think badly of him especially since he is dead and i agree that it is messed up that the driver of the truck wont get more than a slap on the wrist.

Thank you for clearing up the info on the bike status. A vehicle pulling out is one of a rider's worst fears (my worst is deer, but that's another story). Every time I read one of these stories I pray for the family and friends.

I agree. Considering the bike was stolen, you always assume the person riding it stole it or knew it was stolen.

Hemibee,

I feel for your loss. I lost three good friends over the weekend.

i am so sorry for your loss. however, you must know that the driver of the truck is devastated by this as well. she lost her father in a motorcycle accident two years ago. until all of the details emerge (regarding your cousin's speed), i think it may be a bit imprudent to assume that the fault or blame rests singly upon the shoulders of my friend, who was driving the truck. her passenger held your cousin's hand in his final moments, and they are both heartsick over his death, as i'm sure you and your family are.

sadly, this is an awful awful situation from which no one involved will come away the same. regardless of fault, speed, criminal history, or whatever, i am truly sorry for your loss, and for everyone's pain who is touched by this accident. my brother is an avid rider, and i pray that i don't ever have to go through what you and your family are experiencing, and that no one else has to go through what my friend is as a result of an accident in which he is involved.

i am not sharing any of this to inflame; but merely to impart to you that the women in that truck, and everyone who is close to them, are not treating this in a flip or trivial way. we are all deeply struck, shattered, and horrified.

this is your space, riders, and i respectfully won't post again. i simply felt compelled to let you know that everyone involved in this horrible accident is sickened and saddened.

i wish you all sunny rides and safe returns.
