WOW. If I was gonna get an "L" lens, that would be the one.

Now you can document your pipe leaks way better than the claims adjustor who comes out with his lil' PnS.

The "L" lenses are the pro lenses of the Canon line. Best quality glass, innards and construction.

Not sure about Nikon, but Canon makes lenses at several price points for whatever your busget may be....the L Lenses are at the top of that food chain.

Re: Woo Hoo....First "L" Lens!!!!

Back in the day [film] Canon was starting to use acrylics and materials like that in their lenses. To signify purely glass lens from others they used an "L".
It was also to show Low dispersion glass was used. Higher quality materials, higher prices. All glass, all metal, etc.

Re: Woo Hoo....First "L" Lens!!!!

In the Pentax line this place is occupied by either the "Limited" or the * (as in FA*) glass.

Having said that, the best color rendition I've ever got was from the old Zeiss glass in my favorite film camera -- Contax G1. I so want that lens on the digital body.

You really messed up by buying that L lens.

Now you'll be spoiled and won't settle for anything less. I currently have three.

Oh I know....I am torn between getting some more L glass or upgrading to the 5D MKII next...we have mucho OT at work so it is really a matter of just working the hours...and will probably be able to add more L and and the camera to my stable in the next few months.

Of course my recent flood has put a kink in those plans...gotta wait and see how much out of pocket I will have to pay....am hoping for a kind and generous adjuster...want to put pergo in the whole house.

Which lenses do you have?
