Ayers Garage - Powder coating, ceramic coating, restoration
Hey folks, I'm glad to be part of the TWT bunch and wanted to make a little introduction for me and what I do.
My background is in aircraft maintenance and auto and truck repair. In addition to that, I've been heavily involved in restoring various things for 20 years. I even worked on WW2 aircraft for museum display. Several years ago I was growing increasingly frustrated and not being able to find a decent shop to do my powder coating work, so I eventually decided to begin doing it myself. Since that time, I expanded out into also doing ceramic coating as well as some of the other tougher things that customers needed done like welding and repair of damaged pieces. Let me show some examples of work I've done that are quite a bit different than most other shops turn out. These parts are from a Honda CT70. The customer has two daughters, one goes to UT and the other A&M. What you see here is all powder. There are no decals used anywhere. Notice, every single bolt hole was protected, the bearing bores are powder free, and all the shock studs were masked off. When I coat parts, you don't have to worry about cleaning powder out of critical areas before reassembly. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Maybe you've got some parts that you want blacked out. That's a specialty of mine too. ![]() ![]() ![]() Or maybe a candy color ? This is my own color match for Honda Candy Ruby Red. It's an exact match for the original color. ![]() ![]() Intricate masking is no problem either. Here is an engine I did for a customer. Every critical surface was masked, all holes plugged, everything painstakingly tended to. These parts were all carefully degreased and soda blasted prior to coating. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() More two tone work. ![]() ![]() There are over 5000 different colors available. Beyond that, I can combine different basecoats and top coats to achieve any level of gloss desired, textures, wrinkles and candy colors. I can even make any color into a flat. ![]() ![]() I use several different media blast methods depending on the material, including sandblasting, bead blasting, and soda blasting. In addition to powder coating, I also do polishing work.
![]() ![]() Hi-temperature ceramic coating (good to 2000 degrees). This dirtbike exhaust is ceramic coated in matte black. ![]() Weld repairs prior to powdercoat. ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm also able to remove damaged studs, broken bolts and repair threaded holes. |

When I am in the city I am near Azle. I have some home made racks that rattle can paint is just not cutting it on. I will have to bring them your way sometime to get them finished properly. Not restoration stuff, but a good finish won't hurt the looks or the function one bit. Will call you in March with details.

Good looking work, sometimes if you want stuff done right you just have to do it yourself. Other times you find someone that can do the job you want done the way you want it done. I think you have done both. Will keep you in mind for coating work.

Re: Ayers Garage - Powder coating, ceramic coating, restoration
I appreciate the kind words fellas. I'm happy to do any work, not just restoration stuff.
I also wanted to tell y'all that I can do some decal work too. It goes hand in hand with powder work. I can either use the decal for a stencil for powder masking or use it as a normal decal under the powder. I did this job today. It's gloss black powdercoat, then apply decal, and then clear powder topcoat to seat it down tight. The vinyl I use for the decals will withstand the heat from curing the powder no problem. ![]() ![]() This little trick is very handy on various different projects. |

Here's a good question - can you duplicate the Honda 'black chrome' finish found on many 80s Hondas' exhausts with a ceramic coat instead?

Re: Ayers Garage - Powder coating, ceramic coating, restoration
That is a good question. It looks to me like you're looking for a glossier black than the one pictured above. My ceramic supplier is Techline. They do offer one that appears more glossy, but they are currently sold out of it. That seems to be the weak link in ceramics is material supply. Distributors are often sold out of a product for months at a time.
Not my work, but here is a picture from their website as an example of the color and sheen.

Sadly, that doesn't appear to be glossy enough.

Hi Kevin, glad you made it here. I almost threw your name out a while back when someone on here was asking about powder coating, was going to send you a message at the 67-72 site and let you know. I'm sorry I didnt. Hope all is well for you - Curtis (Dodge house)

I'm plum ashamed of my shop. I had a nice 30x40 with all the good stuff, then a divorce kind of changed things. Now I'm working out of a converted horse barn and saving my coin for a better place. It's hard to start over from scratch mid life. I'm certainly not proud of my setup that I have now. |

Re: Ayers Garage - Powder coating, ceramic coating, restoration
I second that. By the way Kevin, I'm liking the green in your portfolio on your website. I'll be pm'ing you soon about a price for coating a frame for me. Maybe that'll be incentive to finish building the frame. - Curtis

Re: Ayers Garage - Powder coating, ceramic coating, restoration
I'll have to get with you on ceramic coating some pipes in the near future. I used to live in Azle so I make it out there every other weekend.

Kevin, outstanding work sir. Anything we can do to help you with your blast, powder equipment or vibe needs feel free to call or PM me.
To answer the question as I have a a few customers that use Techline products no, it will not duplicate that old black chrome look Honda & Yamaha used in the 80s Be nice that was always a cool looking finish

I also forgot to say, for you folks who use the Facebook, I have a page for my business that I update pretty frequently with whatever project I'm working on at the time. Don't worry, if you "like" my page, I won't clutter you up with tons of stuff or game things.
