Re: TWT invasion of Pie Town New Mexico 6/16/2012
Crazy Bob’s Pie Town Invasion Camp out CANCELED! NOTE: Only the "Crazy Bob's" camp-out at Bottomless Lakes State park is canceled. The Pie Town Invasion is still on. With the current fire around Ruidoso and the probability that we may need to detour north from Roswell then head down south to get to Pie Town to avoid the fire area has prompted me to blow off a visit to Roswell this trip. Solorider and I are coming from south of DFW (Waco for me, Houston for him), so we have decided to look at an alternate route that will avoid that area all together. We will leave Thursday; pick the best route depending on status of fires, hurricanes, tornadoes and extra terrestrial beings, drive until we are tired of it and find some cheap sleazy motel along the way. Then head on to Pie Town Friday and either camp there in Pie Town or stay at the Toaster House if room is available. We will try to save some pie for you guys on Saturday, but no guarantees. The foretasted high in Pie Town is about 80 and that will be nice and we are anxious to get into the cool areas. If anyone wants to try and make it to Pie Town for camping Friday night, let me know and I’ll leave a light on for you. As far as Bottomless Lakes State Park goes, I just checked and there are still sites available so if you still want to go there, sites should be available. I’ll wait a day or two before I cancel mine in case you have any problem finding a site and perhaps we could transfer the reservation to you. Let me know.

Leon, is your current end point still Roswell, or has that changed as noted in Bob's post?
Also you may want to call ahead. Even though you have reservations, I am sure that they will be preempted by fire personnel if needed. Not sure if they would call to notify you or not. Sent via VZN Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Only mine and solorider's route has changed. As far as I know, the rest of the gang is still heading to Roswell

I am going to bow out. I am currently in northern Colorado. In order to get to Pie Town by Saturday, I'll have to do about 1,000 miles of highway miles round trip. I am running TKC80 knobbies and the rear is starting to get worn. I need to save tire life for Ouray/Durango/Gunnison dual-sporting later in the week. Enjoy the pie and the CDR. Happy Trails, RB |

I too have to bow out. I am taking calls for another at work. His father past a few weeks back and he needs to go home and take care of some things this weekend. Much more important than my ride. You all have fun and I will look for the ride reports. Ride hard, but safe. ATGATT ...............

Afraid that I have to bow out as well. I guess i will go to east Texas and find some dirt roads to ride. Be careful and enjoy the pie.

Mr. Pie is becoming concerned with the possibility of encountering smoke, so he has procured some more gear for the trip

Re: TWT invasion of Pie Town New Mexico 6/16/2012
for You and Jim and Jeff on your "adventure" bikes I am looking at running down 67 to Victor from Pikes Peak and taking phantom canyon road down to 50 and into canon for the royal gorge bridge. 22 miles of gravel with sharp switch backs, tunnels, steep grades.
what do you think? google maps refuses to plot a route using it.

Re: TWT invasion of Pie Town New Mexico 6/16/2012
IMHO, Phantom Canyon is not technical but very washboardy.
Many of the turns are blind so whoever has the loudest horn should lead and lean on the horn as you approach the the turns.
