Pre Ride to Tricepilot's BBQ4U - JULY 13th, 2012
*** Updated Info at the top! ***
Pre Ride to Tricepilot's BBQ. This is for riding on Friday the 13th. (Ominous sounds) Meet up time: 11:00am The plan is to meet up at the Chrome Cactus for lunch in Johnson City, TX at a time yet to be deterined. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just dropped the 13th on the work calendar to take off. I figure on getting up bright and early on Friday and mosey on down via the back roads, taking a leisurely trip from DFW. Hopefully get down there early enough to get some good riding in, find a good spot for lunch, more riding before making my way to TricePilot's for the shenanigans. Brace yourself. Of course, as long as I've been riding in Texas, I've NEVER ridden in Hill Country. Usually it's just as long to hit Arkansas from here...so I'll go that way on the infrequent chance I can go. So...anybody want to play tour guide, ride as a group, ride down as a group, meet somewhere, I'm open for ideas as it's still way early in the game on this one. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- semi-official role call: Definite: GixxerJasen Infidel Moose cdc Maybe: Danimal youzguyz Probably not... Mr2mch Sadly no longer able to come: DancesWithCurves RonDog Jeff S TWTourist

I wish I could but I will probably be taking the straight and narrow down there to help prep the Q as well as watch a Doo being down to my buddy's bike.

Re: Pre Ride to Tricepilot's BBQ4U - JULY 13th, 2012
That's what I figured. But I also thought if I lived in SA then I probably wouldn't be taking off on friday either. Anyway, just figured I'd put feelers out for a ride perhaps. I'm really looking forward to this!

Re: Pre Ride to Tricepilot's BBQ4U - JULY 13th, 2012
Im self employed and flexible. We can begin to put together a good ride that will end up at the BBQ location on Friday night. Im down with a ride that starts early and allows for a good 6 hours of trouring and then still have some rest time before the festivities begin friday night. I have a cruiser and a dual sport bike and there are a ton of great roads around here, everything from casual smooth backroads to knarly rocky hills...There are alot of riders in this area and im sure we can do just about whatever on Friday including riding the infamous "3 twisted sisters" which is just a short juant out west...I will talk to a few of the guys about hosting a nice ride for the out of town crowd...

Sounds good, I got the time in so I should be good pending anything else in my life going nuts. This'll be a good thread to keep the discussion going.

Re: Pre Ride to Tricepilot's BBQ4U - JULY 13th, 2012
Sounds like an exceptionally good idea. I'll mark my calendar for this - eager to see a route. Twisted Sisters are certainly fun, but would make for a very long day. Here's a 310 mile route, from Austin to Tricepilot's:
https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=A...,10,11&t=m&z=9 Folks from other parts could meet up in Kerrville (where lunch might happen?). Just a suggestion, though. I'd actually prefer something with a bit of dirt to it... |

Re: Pre Ride to Tricepilot's BBQ4U - JULY 13th, 2012
Well, this thread is generating interest as we get closer to the date. Almost one month till I'm chowing down on some tasty BBQ! I can't wait!!!
I started this thread but I'm not going to lay down the iron fist and run it. I'd rather someone local take the lead on the route. However, that said, here's my suggestions. 1. Keeping in mind that many of us will be coming in from outside the area, an early start might not be best. That said, the route should take that into account. I'd like to take 281 down from the DFW area and avoid I35 on a bike at all costs. Blech. However, if I need to beat feet down to catch a good ride, then so be it. 2. I know you DS guys like to get dirty and perform deep water crossings, buuuuuut...I for one am coming down on my FJR. I've been known to take my street bikes on unpaved roads from time to time, but I have my limits and my limits might allow more dirt than others. Maybe this thread should be for a paved route and if need be, by all means we can have another group running a dirty route too. I know nothing of the roads down there so Jeff S, that might be a fantastic route. I like that you have it starting somewhere for lunch as we could all ride in and then take an afteroon/evening ride to Trice's. Again, I'll defer to the folks with local knowledge for lunch suggestions as well, keeping in mind that any BBQ offered locally will shy in comparison to the smorgasbord we'll see on Saturday. Keep it going!

Re: Pre Ride to Tricepilot's BBQ4U - JULY 13th, 2012
I'm requesting a four day weekend for this. If I get it, I would love to join you for the ride. I'll have to meet you some place on the road or ride out with anyone from SA.

Re: Pre Ride to Tricepilot's BBQ4U - JULY 13th, 2012
I live in north SA (Stone Oak) which is close to Tricepilots location. I would love to organize a hill country street/road ride AND/OR a really dirty dualsport ride for anyone interested in learning more about this area...Im available from Thursday evening through Sunday that weekend and would love to ride all weekend and host some out of towners. I too have a pool for post ride cooling sessions....
I ran through the hill country west of austin yesterday following the ROT rally and discovered some secret gems...

Re: Pre Ride to Tricepilot's BBQ4U - JULY 13th, 2012
I'd say our first step might be to find a meeting location. As we have a bunch of us in from out of town, maybe lunch might be a good idea. Or we could meet somewhere easy to get to a smidge earlier. I've no problem beating feet out of DFW early to meet up. I'm on the south side of DFW and won't have to fight through Friday morning traffic to get out of town. Others might have to do this so I'd like to be considerate of them as well if they are looking to join in.
So, let's pick a meeting location that you guys think would be good for folks coming in from DFW, Houston, SA, Coriscana, etc etc and a time. Then I'll let you hill country guys haggle on what roads you want to show off to us. Still plenty of time to make the decisions. Meet earlier, get some riding, then lunch, then more riding. Or just meet for lunch and get some hours of riding in afterwards?

Re: Pre Ride to Tricepilot's BBQ4U - JULY 13th, 2012
Ahh, yes. Start at the beginning
![]() The DFW folks are gonna want something North a bit; the best roads (I know of) are west of 281 - both those together point to something like Lampasas or San Saba. But, that's a dern long way from Houston, and a pretty good haul for the San Anton boys. I don't know much north of 29, either... Hey, maybe I oughta quiet down for a while and see if folks with more miles than I have better roads in mind.... |

Re: Pre Ride to Tricepilot's BBQ4U - JULY 13th, 2012
A meeting point up north of SA on or near 281 would work well. Johnson city is a great starting point. For those that can make it and are truly interested in a friday ride I can organize a great ride that will still end in time for some rest before the BBQ festivities begin. There are even some good routes right around Tricepilots house. The hill country is minutes away so Friday can easily be filled with whatever kind of ride you guys are up for. Just let me know the time schedule and I will plan a sweet route that is sure to please any taste...

Re: Pre Ride to Tricepilot's BBQ4U - JULY 13th, 2012
Any good eats in Johnson city? Looks to be about 4 hours from Dallas and 3:40 from Houston. Might be a good place to meet up for lunch before heading out for some fun. Leaving from Dallas around 7 or 8 would put us there in time for lunch easy I'd think.

Ya'll mind if I might join in??
I'm in Waco & kno all the cool little paved roads west of I35 from Weatherford to Bandera. Was thinkin of ridin down with Liteitup in his truck, but ...if the weather cooperates....a bike ride would be better. Here's a link to the hill country map with my roads listed. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...mid=1307322470 (takes a bit to load....it's BIG)

Re: Pre Ride to Tricepilot's BBQ4U - JULY 13th, 2012
My $0.02 comment...
The group should meet for an early lunch at a place 'relatively' convenient for those riding from out of town. Then a ride (s) paved / dirt with the idea of arriving at Trice's at the end of the day... The locals should have a better idea of where to start...
