Parts for a RideDualSport.com project bike

Christian has entrusted me with some parts for his Honda project. I'm quite flattered because I've always been humbled by his background in the motorcycle game and the bikes he has owned and still owns. Yes, Christian, I have read your threads on ADVrider for a long time.

He sent me a plastic hand guard and asked me to match some powder to it. Thankfully my supplier has great color rings and I was able to find a real good match.

These are quick pictures in the late afternoon sun. I'll have much better pictures up later this week as well as pictures of other parts he sent me to do. I get to do some trick stuff on his engine side covers and some ceramic coating on his exhaust.

Thank you Christian, I shall endeavor to knock these out of the park !

How durable are some of these coatings? I mean, can they endure dirt boot scuffing or tie down strap scuffing?

Re: Parts for a RideDualSport.com project bike

It's been said in the industry that powder is about 20 times as durable as paint is. It's the finish of pretty much every aftermarket and many OEM motorcycle parts. I don't know what you drive, but I'd bet money the wheels on your car or truck are powdercoated. Common things that are powder are filing cabinets, kitchen appliances, tool boxes, etc. Basically, it's everywhere around you. The EPA has really crushed the painting industry which has caused manufacturers to switch to powdercoat finishes. It's a green process as there are no sprayed solvents to evaporate into the atmosphere. Other than my vat of powder stripper which is sealed tight when not in use, the strongest chemical I use in the whole process is denatured alcohol.

You can knock the finish off with repeated attempts but it's not going to come off easily. Let me put it this way, I have two blasting cabinets and one large pressure pot sand blaster and I can't even blast the stuff off even with my expensive equipment. I have to strip it in a special vat of chemical stripper to get it off.

Very awesome, thanks for your work on my XR650R build! I wanted it to have a bit of a custom touch. I am sure the powder coat will hold up great.

I have an old 70' Ducati 250 scrambler that would be a great prospect for some power coat, when I get to the point of taking that project.

The cool thing is I found your services through the TWT advert banner you have here on the site, so the system works!

Looking forward to the extra bling.....who knows I might go crazy and have to send you more!

If you get a bunch of stuff needing done I'm sure we can work out a delivery of some sort. I never miss an opportunity to visit Austin.

I'm still fussing over the logo on his clutch cover. I can't seem to get the white to stay true and not bleed.

I wish I were a more knowledgeable photographer. My camera isn't the weak link here as it's a mid grade DSLR. For some reason, the color and sheen are quite muted compared to the real life.

RDS XR650R Featuring Ayers Garage!

Big thanks to Ayers garage for their custom powdercoat work on the RDS XR650R Thanks for making this bike really rockin! Looking forward to inspection, plate and Roll the Bones!

We made a big push this weekend, by installing an upgraded clutch hub bushing, installing the tank, finalizing the baja designs install, tightening all frame fittings, routing cables and installing the TCI Products skid plate and engine gards.

The beast runs, and is ready to roll bones at the Roll The Bones Rally and go to Big Bend Ranch State Park!
