Austin Texas Hill Country Dual Sport Day Trips

"Where: Meet at Backwoods, located in the western end of the Hill Country Galleria near Dillards, 12921 Hill Country Blvd Ste D2-145, Bee Cave, TX 78738.....in the rear parking lot at 9:00 a.m."

Is Backwoods the same as this location? I'm planning on joining in on the ride. My plan now is to ride the wife's F650GS out from the LaGrange area. Will this be mostly gravel road type riding? This bike has the lowered suspension so it's not too trail friendly. I also could trailer a plated CR450F if that is more better but would prefer to ride the F650GS out if it will work OK.

Hey Craig in Texas.....yes Backwoods is basically at the intersection of Hwy 71 West and RR 620 South in Bee Cave Texas.

Just a short +/-50 miles from Backwoods are some really scenic dirt roads...no trails...just dirt roads...and a few other paved roads to link up some of the other dirt roads. I'm not sure what the pavement to dirt ratio is but it is close to 50:50 on an average.

there will be creek crossings that can tend to be slippery....if they are wet......and a lot of open range cattle country with deer and other critters as well.

From La Grange, WOW. That's a ride just to get here. I went to school in LaGrange a long time ago. Went to school with the county judge Scott Parker. He was a funny guy. See you in the morning!

What an awesome day. Thanks for leading Britt!
Have some video. Troubleshooting my GoPro issues then will play with video uploads using the GoPro Studio program.

Just found those mirrors Britt was running. One stock mirror was gonna cost me $80. Two of those are $101 shipped, and they appear to way better.
Will post up a review over in the right place after I test 'em.

I like them alot.

They do have a little vibration movement when you look in the mirror....but that could be caused by my knobbies......other than that they are great.

On the way to Backwoods.

Good times for sure y'all......thanks for making this another awesome ride......

I haven't heard from Craig....I hope he made it back to La Grange ok.

I will post a few pics and vids in the next day or two.

I know I should have adjusted that dang camera on my head......it was pointed down just a little too much........just enough to %!$$ me off when I looked at the vids. It cut out some of the critters, scenery and the all of the horizon. (insert learning curve excuse here...... :oops: )

Hey.......but I got the sodapop drop and Craigs head-drop in the creek crossing.

Hopefully tomorrows vids will be better aligned with the planets.....:zen:

Are you guys riding again in the morning? Meeting at same place and time as mentioned above?

I am driving over from Houston to join you. I may not get there until 9 or a few minutes after You can call or text me at 832 four seven four 2990.
see ya soo...

Hey everyone from Saturday's ride, I really enjoyed the ride and meeting all of you. I felt welcome even after the ignominious start to the day (a dead battery for those who didn't get to enjoy the moment(s).

I made it home OK but not without some worry. I didn't have enough gas to get all the way home and to open the gas cap meant turning off the engine not knowing whether it would crank again. I finally bit the bullet and pulled into a station, said a little prayer, quickly turned off the engine, opened the gas cap and then immediately tried to start the bike. Nothing, once, nothing twice, then the third time success!

Kinda makes me long for the days of kickstarters, screw on gas caps and petcock valves;-)

Craig, if you didn't have to worry it would have been a dull ride home.:rofl:

Here's what I took.

Did ThomasM get a new bike? Wow! Oh, wait, it gets cleaned once in a while. Never mind.

Sorry I missed that ride, looks like a lot of fun and places I haven't been yet. I have Saturday Feb 01 off, hopefully he'll do a ride then.

I got to do this ride on Saturday. 280 miles door to door. Britt, thanks for leading us on a beautiful, scenic ride. Craig, nice to meet you, also. Thomas and Bryan, great riding with you again.

Creek crossing with cows........

[ame="http://youtu.be/tzE9OcZmEiU"]http://youtu.be/tzE9OcZmEiU[/ame]

As Craig in Texas said earlier.....he was having issues with his battery....on this creek crossing......the bike died. :(

[ame="http://youtu.be/vAzLV4ScZDo"]http://youtu.be/vAzLV4ScZDo[/ame]

Craig cranks the bike a couple of more times......and brings it back to life. :)

[ame="http://youtu.be/bRVYnlP4olg"]http://youtu.be/bRVYnlP4olg[/ame]

Then there was the classic "sodapop drop"......

[ame="http://youtu.be/SxQCbr7s3L4"]http://youtu.be/SxQCbr7s3L4[/ame]

I appologize again for the low camera angle....this was the maiden voyage of my new go pro camera. Sundays camera angle was on the mark.

This pretty much concludes the "useable" videos from Saturdays ride......the camera angle pretty much sucks...... :eek2: ......the life out of the enjoyment of watching them.

Hey Thomas, Procycle has them for 47.95 each. Just sayin

Here's a place that lets you mount them to the BMW mirror mounts.

Solomoto.com

Thanks guys. Those are what I ordered. Seems like nobody stocks them (extra 3-5 day processing time) and the manufacturer got them out today, so I'll have them for this weekend, including the long arm and BMW specific mount. And both those places were more after shipping. Can't wait to not have "spinny" mirrors.

Well, they didn't get all the mud off of the windscreen...:-)
