Road Kill
While riding along the highways and byways of our state there is a noticable amount of road kill , you tend to glance and identify it as you cruise by . Last sunday after doing some maintaince on one of my bikes I went for a short ride on the county roads in my area . I saw a large object in the road ahead , backed off a bit to see if it was going to move . it didn't . When I went by I saw a large sail fish in the road. This is the first time I had to dodge a fish, not saying that there weren't some in some of the rivers and creeks I have forded but this is the first one I saw . So stay aware , you never know what you are going to see out there . It was one of those plastic ones you see on the wall in a restaurant, but it was still a fish . SEYA

Re: Road Kill
When I drove trucks for a while, we used to make recipe's for the roadkill. The best to date was buzzard kabob's. Pineapple, onion, and jalapeno, served with sweet potatoe caserole. If you soak the meat in buttermilk for 12 hours before cooking, it removes the gamey taste. And no, we never actually tried any of it.

This was a first one for us as well (WARNING, Image may be disturbing to some) I love animals, so no flames please: http://home.comcast.net/~adanv/armadillo.jpeg I imagine some kids thought this would be funny (it's kinda cruel really), I could not believe my eyes... we'd been riding all day in one of the hottest days of summer, I though my mind was playing a trick on me

Re: Road Kill
I worked with a guy who swore that he and his brother would watch for dead animals on the edge of the road, especially dogs. They would wait until the dead animal was bloated until its legs were sticking straight out like the armadillo above. They would flip them over and stand them up like they were still alive. "Oh look, fluffy's not dead after all." Never knew if he was joking or not but based on his personal habits, I'd say he probably did.

Re: Road Kill
Some one on the site who lives near me but shall remain nameless, has a pic of a cat laying at the curb with a sign that sais "FREE CAT" . So bad it's good, course my daughters would freak if they saw it. I on the other hand can't quit laughing

Re: Road Kill
Not to long ago Cindy and I were out on 362, north of 1488, and came across the biggest hog (not a Harley) we had ever seen. It was right in the apex of the northbound lane, we were headed south. It was soooooooooooo big it literally took up the entire northbound lane. When we got to 1488 we both looked at each other and were glad it was not in our lane nor a vehicle headed northbound swerving into our lane to miss it. It could have been ugly.

Re: Road Kill
This morning I dodged geese. Three big white ones were waddling across the street (actually using the crosswalk) when I turned the corner from Lamar onto Riverside coming into downtown. They were in no particular hurry and when I tooted my horn, rather than scaring them off they all stopped and gave a me a look like "What?! You wanna piece of this?! Bring it on, buddy!"
I guess my single-tone Fiamm horn sounded a bit like a goose so they thought I was just another one of them. When I rode by, the last one turned and charged me like he meant business.

Re: Road Kill
Geese are not to be taken lightly! They can be very agressive

Re: Road Kill
Several years ago I was working on I10 between Brookshire and Katy . We were doing mainlane construction so traffic was detoured , we drove on the closed section where we were working . there was a big flock of geese in a field right at the edge of the road , When one of the superentendent drove by they all took off , flying low over the road , lighten the load as they took off . His truck was covered with goose poo . Till this day I still watch wich way they go when they take flight . SEYA
