A Few "L" questions

Guys.. I've had my 94 650L for a couple of months now and have had really little time to delve into it's issues. I have no spark at this time. I've read bookoo threads here and at ADV about the CDI issues. I pulled the trigger and replaced mine with a brand new one and still no spark. Today I cleaned connector contacts(one of them was slightly corroded) on the wiring harness under the tank and I checked the coil & kickstand switch, both were good. I've read that I can bypass all the safety switchs by grounding the two wire/clutch connectors. I removed some tape and found someone had been there before me.( Go figure with an 18 year old bike huh) I'm gonna tell ya right now that I am no mechanic but I'm not afraid to open up my toolbox and take things apart. The carbs a Mikuni Flat slide but I don't know what size. The only markings on it other then Mikuni is T38 and 85A. Any help will be much appreciated. Dave

Did you check the kill switch by the throttle? Mine can sometimes require a couple on/off switches to make good contact.

Re: A Few "L" questions

Probably not the answer you were hoping for but here is a recent no spark issue on a bike with unknown history. Fact you've already found some wiring modifications steers in this direction also. But I actually am linking this as it has an extensive checklist of items that could cause no spark.

I was just about to take it apart and clean it when I got interrupted by "She Who Must Be Obeyed". Maybe tomorrow night.

Yes sir. I read that one too. It's nice to see there are several on ebay for me to choose from if need be.

Re: A Few "L" questions

Man this has been a slooooow ordeal but at least I'm finally getting some time to work on the scoot. I serviced the kill switch and it checked out as functioning properly. After all my trouble shooting I'm questioning the pulse generator as the culprit to my woes. It's now on order and I will be eagerly awaiting it's arrival. I've found various things that need attention. It seems the mikuni that came on the bike leaves a little too much play between the airbox boot and the intake manifold, one big jolt and I'm thinking my carb could just flop free. I've got some very technically minded buds and I'm sure we can fab something up to tighten things up a bit. A couple of broken off bolts need to be extracted and a cracked weld that must be re-welded, both by someone that makes a living at it. Also, I'm gonna need to replace the seat base as it has no place for the bolts to go through to mount it(how the previous owner do that kind of damage I'll never know). I should have looked harder before I did the deal... arrgggg. Ya live and learn... Now come on UPS dude!!!

Re: A Few "L" questions

Well after replacing the CDI,PULSE GENERATOR and COIL I still had no spark.
I've been posting here and ADV off and on and have gotten some excellent advice from some very seasoned people. After much time poking and prodding I am VERY happy to say that I found the loose connector and I now have BOOKOO spark. I'm looking forward to sharing some seat time with ya'll as soon as I take care of the rest of the little things that need to be resolved. It's a beautiful thing. Dave
