Soft Luggage

I ran across this website for Nomad soft luggage and thought I'd share it. Looks like a knockoff of the Giant Loop bags at a lot less money. I know that I really like my Giant Loop, Mojavi bag, and looking at this one, I like the idea of the additional pockets.

They say "you get what you pay for" and I have no idea as to the quality of the Nomad bags, but for the difference in price, if I were in the market, I might give it a shot.

Re: Soft Luggage

Other than the added side bags, it looks exactly the same... Those added bags look like they are made of a different material than the main bags.

Re: Soft Luggage

I've been using the Sherpa tank bag for 3-4 months and it's been great. The outside pockets get used by me more than the main compartment. Giant Loop bag has no outside pockets and is $70 more.

I also have their Venture bag which is sized similar to the GL Great Basin but $200 less. This is a huge bag for long treks and/or for camping so have used it only once but very impressed.

I did a longer review of these bags on Advrider.

I'm not seeing the way the bag attaches to the "bra". Anyone got a photo of that? TIA

(if it's like my Mojavi bag)
I wouldn't call it quick, but it is easy. I usually service my air filter before I go on a trip, since the way I anchor mine interferes with removing the filter cover. The Bra part (clips) attaches to the rear fender and then the front straps anchor to the frame and draw tight, pulling against the rear Bra clips. It usually takes me 10 minutes to put in on and get it situated and tight, then tuck the excess straps out of the way.

I've been down with mine several times and have seen others take some pretty good tumbles, and the bags don't move. They also keep the extra weight really low, so that you really don't notice it when you wick-up the pace thru rough sections.

You can see the Bra type clips in this photo, coming from the bags to the fender, just below my rack. You can also see the front straps around the frame, just below the fuel tank.

Re: Soft Luggage

I've been debating over the GL Mojavi or the Wolfman day tripper enduro bags for a while now, so, I guess I'll take one for the team... Just ordered the the Nomad set. I chose USPS shipping and it came to 134.65. They also throw in a free t'shirt at checkout.

I'll keep you posted.

Re: Soft Luggage

After seeing SB's Nomad Rider Sherpa tank bag on a recent ride I've ordered one for the DRZ. Should be here tomorrow. Seeing it in person, and hearing SB's experience with it made the Nomad a quick sell.

Looking forward to having easy access to my goodies. The bag looks well built and well designed for easy use. I don't know why the other guys tank bags don't have pockets. It was about $125, shipped.

Can you describe what it takes to move the tank bag out of the way for a fuel fill up?

It is zippered completely around the base so bag can quickly be removed same as if you stop and want to bring the bag with you inside. Or as I do for fuel ups just unzipper it 2/3 and bag will hinge up and stay out of the way while you fill up. Actually with my bag in place I could fuel up without doing anything but would be slightly tight and then any drips would get on the bag hence I unzip halfway.

I just got an email reply from them and that's what they said. He, Gary, was going to try and get a photo for me. It's all making sense now. I may be on board for the tank bag.

Re: Soft Luggage

I got my Nomad "Out n Back" luggage thing today. $134.65 to my door.

My initial impression is positive, it looks tough. I will keep duct tape in one of the bags since I am still prone to throwing my DRZ on the ground hard.

I look forward to testing it.
