Re: dune buggy

Frame looks like an old Johnny's Speed and Chrome frame. I also see kingpin front end, IRS rear end, dual port engine with dual Kadron carbs.

That's a pretty solid collection of good parts there.

Excuse me for being morbid, but it doesn't look wrecked in any of the photos so I don't understand the statement.

No one knows for sure, but we think he rolled it and was thrown out.

It's at his dad's shop. He (the dad) is a tinkerer and has replaced the lights and added the brake light and speedometer, as well as straightening one of the roll cage tubes and repainting the affected areas. All superficial damage.
Doubt I could have worked on it, but he did.

Re: dune buggy

Just a thought, but these things usually sell better if they're streetable. If there ever was a title for it, it may be worth your time to chase it down or file for a lost title. Getting it fully street legal and registered would be the best, but just having a title would go a long way for a lot of folks.

Of course, it's entirely possible that none of that is an option. Good luck with the sale. It's definitely a cool buggy.

Re: dune buggy

i grew up in Alabama driving one that looked like that one. You title them as home built. takes a bit more work but can be done.

Re: dune buggy

Mine was the same color and close to the same frame, but mine had downtubes that wrapped under the engine. I also had to weld in a support plate where the shocks mount due to cracks in the main tube. It was also a slightly longer wheelbase model as I had room behind the front seats to mount a footlocker to store ropes and spare oil and whatnot.

Mine was street legal (in AZ) and I drove it to work as my commuter vehicle. A pair of ski goggles for most of the year was all I needed, and then I bundled up for Dec/Jan. Mine had cutting brakes which made it a lot more fun in the desert. Unfortunately it was stolen back in 1982. I paid $2100 for it in 1981, insured it for $2500, drove the heck out of it for a year and still made money on it.

That's also why I originally had asked to see more photos because it was strikingly similar to my stolen buggy.
