good helmet suggestion
I am really into bikes and I will have my own for the next two weeks and I am should be going around looking for a helmet. Can you suggest any great helmet brand? I heard that Bell Star full face is awesome for ventilation and performance.
Anyone has experience with this kind of helmet? I really do like helmet with cool design, it is very stylish for me. I am looking forward for your replies |

Shoei are the best, but pricy. Also I personally like Scorpion. Actually I have both, Shoei RF-1000 for long rides and Scorpion EXO-100 for hot weather.

Re: good helmet suggestion
As long as it has a DOT approval and is full faced, fit is more important than anything.

So true. Snug fit - must. But, noise level is also important. Shoei is very quiet.

Re: good helmet suggestion
My head shape is long oval so round shapes give me a headache. Bell is somewhat round IIRC. My two helmets are an Arai Profile and a Shoei Multitec.

Re: good helmet suggestion
If a Scorpion fits well, they are a decent helmet for the money. Especially if you can find one on closeout - I found my EXO-700 for about $110 at NewEnough. There are a lot of good makes, so I'm with all these other guys - fit is key. Find a CycleGear or similar and try them all on.

Re: good helmet suggestion
Aria does make helmets that are more oval in shape. They are expensive but I can wear mine 12 hours a day for 14 days straight without problem. Find a dealer where you can try on different models. My wife and I were actually fitted for ours at the Aria booth at the International Motorcycle Show two years ago...

Noise should never be factor in helmet selection because you should be wearing ear plugs regardless of the helmet brand. Protecting your hearing is just as important as protecting our head.

I have Scala Rider BT installed in my helmet. I'm listening music and talking on the phone when riding. Noise level is very important for me.

Re: good helmet suggestion
Might want to find a better comm unit. My Interphone F5 works just fine in my Arai XD WHILE wearing earplugs. The XD is arguably one of the noisiest helmets out there.

Re: good helmet suggestion
Check Motorcycle Superstore online for a Bell Arrow Helmet. Last year's models were on clearence -$49 and 5yr warranty.
After owning various helmets, including a high price Shark, this one is my favorite. Light weight, good fit, and moves air.

Re: good helmet suggestion
Understood, lot of people are against wearing helmets as well.

Re: good helmet suggestion
Personally I like my Shoei, but more importantly, as has been said, find a helmet that fits your head.
Besides DOT approval I would also look for a Snell approved helmet. Snell has come under some scrutiny in recent years for how they test (weights dropped onto helmets) but they have a higher threshold of what they will approve than the DOT. I'm happy to pay more for a better helmet with better fit, we're talking about protecting my charming good looks and quick here. I also wear ear buds (etymotics) or ear plugs. I worry about wind damage to my hearing and I like my music. |

Also don't give up on a brand if on model doesn't fit you well. Shape may carry between models.
I loved my HJC carbon and it saved my life. My only complaint was it was a little on the noisy side. Now my Shark helmet, I really LOVE that thing. Great fit and much quieter than the HJC was.
