2012-2013 Camping Schedule with Friends

A few of us did some motorcycle camping trips this past spring and really enjoyed it. We decided we needed to do this more often, so I worked up a schedule for this fall and spring. We decided to do mainly State Parks because of facilities and affordability. After each trip we were able to tweak our camping equipment until we were set. Anyone that wants to join us, come on out. The more the merrier. In the State Parks, you are allowed up to 8 people per site but the # of tents depends on size of site. *Everyone needs to make their on plans on reserving a site for X # of people you are camping with. *When you make a reservation, you have to pay for the first night ($16-20), *The hard to get ones are Inks, Guadalupe River,Garner, and Blanco. They fill up pretty fast.*In the past, we usually had 6-10 show up, so don't feel bad if you can't make it. *Here is the list:

September 14-16 ****Guadalupe River SP
October 12-14. *********Inks SP
October 26-28. ********Roll The Bones Rally
November 9-11 *******Swamp Scooter Rally
November 16-18 ******Huntsville SP
December 7-9. *********Palmetto SP
December 21-31. *****Big Bend
January 18-20. ********Goliad SP
Feburary 15-17 ********Blanco SP
March 8-10. *************South Llano SP
April 12-14. **************Garner SP
May 10-12. **************Colorado Bend SP
May 31-June 2. *******Bastrop SP

Re: 2012-2013 Camping Schedule with Friends

This is a great idea. I really enjoy camping when on the bike, but it's usually solo, which can be a tad boring. Hopefully I can join one or two of these.

Re: 2012-2013 Camping Schedule with Friends

Have some gear in prep for camping, but haven't camped before....I know, I know from the NE. Went to camp as a youngin, but never camped. Any recommendations on which trip would be most enjoyable to a hotel person hooked on the Westin Heavenly Bed?

I took the liberty to map the locations out as best I could and all are well within reach.

With the right camping gear, any of those places would be great. The only one that doesn't have showers and electric is Colorado Bend, but the park is really in a good location. I sometimes pull a Bushtec trailer behind my Wee or FJR and with my tent am able to have a cot, pico chair and plenty of room. REI gives you many options for comfort. Camping has made my bike trips so much more affordable. I can camp for a week for what 1 night in a Holiday Inn costs.

If I have to many people concerned about the gravel on the way to Colorado Bend, my alternates are Pedernales SP, McKinney Falls SP, or Lost Maples. We have a lot of time to tweak this schedule if need be.

From partaking in the bob pie run camp outs, you may want to take a look at the over vehicle limit. Motorcycle = one car, unless towed in somehow... go figure. I will gladly check my schedule and join up where I can. I need a reason to get out of the metronome.

Sounds like a great idea, on that middle day do you try and plan some riding or just leave it open for some freestyle.

Man I haven't camped out in a very long time and to do this on my KLR would be a blast!

I'll have to see what date I can make...

Thanks Steve!

Going to make as many of these as I can.

I am new to camping off the bike, but I have had a blast so far.

I can't make the first event, but the others I plan to make. "Riding on the middle day", well that's up to you. Usually we ride somewhere, even if it's just to the local town to get supplier or browse. Campfires, swiming and story swapping are in order. And anything else someone might want to do. Hope to see you there. Hardy

Everyone just kind of do what you want to do. Some of us ride the good roads in the area and find a neat place to eat lunch and some just hang out at the camp site. Riders choice.

Re: 2012-2013 Camping Schedule with Friends

You read my mind! my wife and I took the FJR to Colorado Bend 2 weekends ago and my very thought was I should put together some rides to various state parks.. so thanks for for doing the planning!

The road to Colorado Bend isnt for the faint of heart, but we made it.

My work week currently ends Sat at 6pm, so i'll have to improvise a little.. Anybody else with a crazy schedule like mine?

I work a rotating shift so I have to sit down and figure out what weekends I am off and what weekends I work before I can see which ones I would even be off to attend.

3 to 4 weeks before the scheduled monthly camping trip, we will have a separate thread to see who is in and if enough sites are reserved.
