ROLL THE BONES III: BIGGER AND BETTER. October 26-28, 2012, Hamilton, TX

We don't care what you ride, or what kind of road surface you like to ride on, this is the Adventure Rally for you. It ain't Dakar, Katmandhu, Patagonia, or even Alaska but our backyard offers twisty roads, big views, little traffic, great scenery, and some of the best dirt roads in all of Texas.

We are not a business, just a bunch of friends from Adventure Rider, Two Wheeled Texans, and Ride Dual Sport who decided we'd have a little fun. We formed a Dis-Organizing Committee and I'll be danged, it happened! Then it happened again! Who knew?

Now we are in our third year and still learning as we go. There will be changes. It will be Bigger and Better!

We can't deliver the Northern Lights or Nepalese sherpas , but we will surprise you with some little known and under-appreciated exotic locales right here in Texas. Our route suggestions will be on public roads, both paved and dirt. Please be aware......some of the dirt roads are pretty rough and the water crossings can be treacherous. Every inmate must plan their ride based upon their level of experience. Multiple route offerings will be suggested, allowing for riders to choose their course accordingly. This event is open to all, but you must be a licensed motorcycle rider. Bring your friends or make new ones; network and have some fun!!! Remember, safety third.

We ain't here to make any money. We just like having a good time and are eager to share our excitement with others.

Now. Go take a look at our pics, wander around our website, visit us on Facebook and ask us any questions you may have. Remember, there are no stupid questions, just stupid people. I think you are gonna like what ya see.

Woohoo!! Now we are cooking!! Thanks, James for getting this up here with all the fancy links (and for all your hard work on the website with ghost and on the fb page). Y'all check it out. It looks like we have a clue. Who knew?

Now for the fun stuff. Running the pre-rides and doing the routing.

I personally will have a big bike FM street route and another Rally Raid big mile dual-sport route.

I don't know everywhere we'll go but...

And

and our Centex version of this

will be on the menu.

Y'all come share some good times with us and help us raise some money for Wounded Warrior.

Gee. Forgot to mention that :

1. we have some great new sponsors for the giveaways and raffles

2. Larry (Veriest on adv) will be giving a presentation on ultralight camping with a motorcycle twist (and he knows his stuff)

3. we have some surprise challenges in store for you, too.

4. Ghost has made a discount deal with the Hamilton Inn for cheaper digs (but still with in room flush toilets).

More fun. More friends.

Streetier street and dirtier dirt.

Professor Mudclod has a "maraude" planned to keep the dirtier crew entertained and the TieDyed Tour Guide's paved goat paths never disappoint his groups.

Correct you are sir! I'm planning 150-200 miles of backroad bliss and hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate with a bit of moisture. It's worth the price of admission just to see the wonderful Circle T facility and associate with all the like-minded individuals that will be present. Nice camping along the creek with huge shade tree's and close proximity to showers and nice restrooms as well. The Circle T Best Western offers over the top rooms with a very generous breakfast buffet.

It's just east of our family Ranch(Meridian Creek Ranch of 4185)
Makes me want a DS bike.

Re: ROLL THE BONES III: BIGGER AND BETTER. October 26-28, 2012, Hamilton, TX

lol. I used to own a little 50 acre place on the creek 1/4 mile from that pic. Should have never sold it.

And your post brings up a point we are trying to make about the RTB Rally . You don't need a dual-sport to come and have fun. The street riding around here is excellent. Little traffic. Big panoramic sweeper roads. Tight little twisties. Yeah, a lot of us are big dual-sporters but the rally don't care. I have a street bike that I ride 1000 miles a month on these roads. I love riding around here.

So if ya ride a 'wing or a 'busa. I promise you, we can put you on a fun route. I do turn by turns for my routes and if I get them together in time, TXjames does GPS voodoo, too.

So... is there usually more than couple of paved-only riders?
This sounds good and not too far for me.

Re: ROLL THE BONES III: BIGGER AND BETTER. October 26-28, 2012, Hamilton, TX

Will you be on the FJR?

4jranch and Lynn on their ST1300's and MacDaddy on his FJR have ridden a lot with our local group (and simmons1,too. some on his FJR but mostly on his Tenere) and most of the roads they have ridden will be similar to what Mr2mch runs on his route. Heck. schizzman rides his big pig Ultra with us, too. (But then again, he's kinda adventurous. In fact, everybody I named is. ) You could pm them for their thoughts or maybe they'll post up. I own a street bike also and I like to mix up the sweepers with the paved CR's about 50/50 on my personal rides on pavement.

But IMO your bike might have more fun on a route that includes more of our FM's with a smattering of the best of our CR twisties. I don't know if I personally would enjoy hustling a FJR around twisty CR's all day but some folks love it. So I have always had available what I call the Street Raid made up of primarily winding FM's with big views, little traffic, and nice marked 40-50-60's. Look at 580 fom Bend to San Saba or 590 from Zephyr to Comanche or 572 headed east from Goldthwaite or heck.....I got a passle of them. Hook those up with some Chalk Mountain CR twisties up around Glen Rose and the best of the Bosque , Coryell, and Hamilton County FM's and you can have a heckuva week-end.

Mr2mch usually has 20 or so riders in his group riding street*. I'd say probably ten or more others ride all pavement not with Mr2mch. So yeah, a lot more than 2 but certainly less than half. I'm guessing about a third. Maybe 28.84 %. Final answer.

We have put a link on our registration page where you can pick your interest among 4 categories of roads.

We'll use that data to help us plan y'all some routes.

Dirty as we can make it
50/50 Dirt/Street
Paved goat-paths
Big Bike FM's

Mr2mch (Rod) and I have been riding this area since they invented dirt so........between us and the (relatively speaking) youngsters, we can get ya covered up with choices.

*Caveat: Rod's definition of "street" or "paved" sometimes runs to "paved-ish". Nothing difficult but sometimes dusty.

Camilo......You DEFINATELY need to come up to the rally. The FMs Tom (slowoldguy) is referring to.....FM580..590..572..etc. are all great on a sport touring bike like the FJR. Heck, they're great on most any street bike that can keep a 70-80 mph pace..(but you don't necessarily have to).

Mudclod's video on post #4 showed our "pavement" group riding up on their "mixed" group at an intersection south of Hamilton near Ohio & Hwy84.

I'll be concocting a brew of pavement..hills...twistys...sights & ...who knos what? for our riding pleasure at RTB. There are usually anywhere from 10 to 12 or so riders who show up wanting to ride pavement only (or just a bit of gravel...but not much). If I do have a short stretch (1-3 mi) of gravel to connect paved goodies.....it'll be easy smooth riding gravel. Or I'll have an alternate all paved route with someone who knos the area to guide ya & meet up with the rest of the group down the road.

Think of our riding area around Hamilton..Comanche..Glen Rose..Clifton.. Gatesville & Lampasas as an extension of the Texas Hill Country....Which..In Fact...it is...Not the REALLY GIANT HILLS of Leakey..Camp Wood.. but hills just the same. & plenty of roads cover'n 'em.

Not horrible but.......missing the best stuff. Call me next time you are down here. I'll get the little Harley out and I'll show you some of our hidden roads. You can show me around the ranch. I like ranches.

Re: ROLL THE BONES III: BIGGER AND BETTER. October 26-28, 2012, Hamilton, TX

Over the years I have developed a favorite twisty loop that I ride when my DFW buds come down. I kept changing it up and one of them (aptly named Habitual Violator on the XR1200 board) told me the last time..."I just want to ride those same roads. I'm good with those. I could just ride them, then turn around and ride them the other way." lol And here I was trying to keep it new.
