2005 FJR

2005 FJR 1300 considered by some the best year ever and I would agree, though I might be a little biased. With 35k miles it's just getting broke in good. The mileage could change a little if the weather is pretty on the weekends. Non-ABS, all stock, well cared for s/t. I'm really torn about selling it I have owned this bike longer than any and it has always done exactly what I asked of it. Hope this doesn't turn into the one I wish I had back. Shoot me a PM if you have any questions. $6500

I would also be interested in adding cash to a trade for the right 2008-2010 ZX14/Busa, VFR1200F or Concourse.

Edit: GONE

Re: 2005 FJR

What a sweet ride the '05 is, Duane.
Will this leave you with just the B King? Thinking about shifting away from the S-T style?

Re: 2005 FJR

Bill I have never owned a bike as long as I have this one, I usually trade them out pretty frequently. I'm just wanting to try something different and I don't want to part with the B-King. As I stated in the opening post I have mixed emotions about selling but I thought I'd throw it out there and see what happens.

Besides Linda still has her Gen I FZ and I'm also setting her up with a pretty salty Gen II to go with it. I might could talk her into letting me ride one of those.

05's where everywhere when I wasn't looking. Couldn't find a good deal on a low mileage one when I was looking, now that I picked up an 07, look at all the 05's out there!

Why was the '05 considered one of the better years? I've heard that before elsewhere also.

Re: 2005 FJR

It's a raging debate among the FJR owners. The Gen II (2006+) got a lot of stuff, but with it came a change in fueling, an increase in weight, and gained in length. The Gen I guys will tell you that their bike is lighter and faster than the Gen II guys. ABS was optional on the Gen I, but became standard in 2006 so there's a lot of the weight gain.

I'll admit that Yamaha really missed the boat on the throttle cam and fueling on the 06 and 07 bikes but supposedly fixed it in 08 and even better in 09. It was all perfect in 05, dunno why they jacked with it. 05 is the last year of the first generation, and in my opinion, had the best paint job of any FJR.

This blue is gorgeous for sure. Thanks for the "lesson". I've been looking at these for a while and regret buying one when I got my ST1300.

I think it's mostly owners of genI FJRs acting defensive. The genII got a completely new and different fuel injection system, and I will concede the mapping on the 06/07 is not as good as the genI. Part of the reason is marketing clinics. European riders told Yamaha they thought a 1300cc bike should have snappier throttle response. Yamaha responded on the '06 bike with a throttle cam shape that gives quicker opening at low throttle. So snappier, yes, but also difficult to modulate in that first 5% of the throttle where you spend most of the time riding.

The genII does weigh a few pounds more, mostly due to standard ABS brakes. The swingarm is about an inch longer, and the final drive gearing is perhaps 2% longer. So technically a non-ABS genI will outperform it. In practice any difference in performance is miniscule and meaningless on the road. Both engines have the exact same HP and torque ratings from the factory.

On the plus side, the genII bikes have better heat management (no burned legs, no boiling gasoline), better airflow management (less buffeting at highway speeds), and meet EuroIII emissions standards (I like breathing clean air).

Trying not to go too deep into the rathole - to the OP,that is a really nice clean bike.

Yeah I'm just trying to sell a bike here not start a Gen I vs Gen II thread. I will not go into the electrical harness frying, clutch sticking, ignition switch puking ground spider nightmares of the Gen II's. But thanks for dumping on my thread. I think you should ride the bike that you like. If that's a Gen I or II FJR great, and if you need a non-gas boiling Gen I, I can fix you up.

Sweet bike. 54K on my '05 and yes, that Galaxy Blue was the best color.
I've never kept a bike this long either.

Best color ever for this bike. I wish I could pick one up now. Had an old FJ1200 as my first bike for many years.

That was one heck of a first bike! My first mc after I wore out the mini bike was `73 Honda CL70, that poor thing got rode like it was a 125 Elsinore. I never got to ride one but I sure did like the looks of the FJ's.

Yes it was, especially for being 19. By the grace of God I kept it rubber side down for 6 years. It was a wonderful bike, and an awesome 40k miles traveled.
