I've got a fever, and the only cure is an old airhead hack
The title sums it up. I'm interested in an old school airhead hack. I really like the Steib style sidecars.
So I'm asking for suggestions as to where I should be looking? Who has a contact with this type of thing? Curly Mike or SwampFox, I'm guessing one of you knows someone who can help move this along. |

Thanks Swampfox! The first one is out of my price range, and the second one is just close enough that it's going to keep me up at night thinking about it. It's beautiful.

"Cozy" makes a cheap imitation of a Steib that is really rather cool...
![]() Definitely requires some re-work if you intend to do serious hiway miles/speeds.

Perhaps you would appreciate the preeminent southern gospel cowbellist from the Imperials? (it's a 70s thing)

Re: I've got a fever, and the only cure is an old airhead hack
There was a group last year that took old Honda CB350s and rode them with sidehacks across the country. The built the sidecars from scratch and rode the snot out of them. I don't know where there ride blog is but I remember they had problems with tires wearing out. It appears it is easy to build a sidecar, but one that is technically correct is much more difficult. They swapped off between riding the sidecar to piloting the cb350 with the idea that they could run 24/7.

Building/aligning sidecar rigs seems to be as much art as science.

That's true, the science tells you where to START to align it for best operational results, the art is fine-tuning it for the specific bike the hack is mounted to. Tire wear is definitely an issue, leading link front suspension on the bike can mitigate that considerably.
