New member in Fort Worth by way of Paris TX

I'm new to street bikes and will be taking my motorcycle safety course this weekend. I researched a lot of bikes and settled for a 2013 f800 GS to start out with. I like the idea of riding all types of terrain. The guys at the BMW place I bought it where great and told me about 2 wheeled Texans. I also have a patient tell me about you all.I have only loged 20 miles on the bike and cant wait to be leagel next week.

Welcome to the site, and nice bike. Easy on that throttle getting started. It has some good power and some good brakes.

There are quite a few TWT members up in your area so hopefully they will chime in soon.

It is no crime to be ignorant of economics, which is, after all, a specialized discipline and one that most people consider to be a ‘dismal science.' But it is totally irresponsible to have a loud and vociferous opinion on economic subjects while remaining in this state of ignorance. – Murray N. Rothbard

But the myth of the rule of law does more than render the people submissive to state authority; it also turns them into the state's accomplices in the exercise of its power. For people who would ordinarily consider it a great evil to deprive individuals of their rights or oppress politically powerless minority groups will respond with patriotic fervor when these same actions are described as upholding the rule of law. - John Hasnas

Welcome. I'm in Cowtown by way of Big D.

The F800GS is a sweet bike. Just take it easy and go at your own pace after you take the class. About 6 months after the class, try reading the book - Proficient Motorcycling.

We meet somewhere in Tarrant Co. most Tues so come join us one evening when you can.

Re: New member in Fort Worth by way of Paris TX

I showed up at the motorcycle safety course in Richland hills Saturday at 7 am sharp to find out that the instructor was in the hospital and they didn't have a sub. I asked politely if he was OK, they said yes and I just couldn't help myself and asked if he hurt himself riding a motorcycle. The nice lady just smiled and said no he had Bursitis in his lower leg lol.I'm rescheduled for this weekend and should have my license by next week.I cant wait to hit the dirt with you guys but im afraid it will take me some time to be able to keep up.I have a lot of Polaris ranger experience, quads and some dirt bike but no street bike or dual-sport. The last thing I would want to do is slow a group of experience riders up.

Howdy! Every Friday night at the Burger box in NRH is a great way to put faces to screen names. We also do pie runs the last weekend of the month where a bunch of us go. Just keep your eyes peeled

Welcome, sir. Take it very easy on your shiny new scoot. You don't have to impress anyone. Post up a ride sometime and I'm sure someone around here would be glad to show you the DS ropes. I hope to meet you some time.

Are you doing RTB this year? I can't recall if they have enough trees for a hammock.

Its on my to do list. First I need to tell my doc my back is fine (claims the pain I feel is from a herniated disc) then convince the boss why I am more productive out of the office.

Hammocks are suggested for creek side. I need to scout the area out. If all else fails, there is the treeless hammock approach where you have one pole in the ground, and another on the bike.
