the Chineese are coming!

with full size motorcycles!
CFMoto is producing a 650cc motorcycle for the American market.
it will use a cloned improved version of the Kawasaki 650 paralel twin found in the versys and ninja650.

there will be a naked 650NK and a sport tour 650TR

CFM650NK

CFM650TR

Re: the Chineese are coming!

I have to say, if the quality of the assembly and the materials used is anything like the other Chinese stuff on the market, I will be giving these a wide berth!!

Re: the Chineese are coming!

That naked bike is pretty near a dead ringer for the ER6-N... Only it comes with KYB suspension imported from Japan. I am not sure where Kawasaki sources the shocks for the original. I do know that my Japanese Yamaha has a shock that only has three words stamped on it... "Made in China" to be exact.

I suppose these merit a wait and see approach as to whether they are solid bikes. This might be the start of a new wave of clone bikes.

Re: the Chineese are coming!

Both are good looking bikes.

I agree though - the Chinese bikes I have seen to date are just plain scary and I wouldn't ride one without completely dismantling and reassembling it first.

Re: the Chineese are coming!

Its all about you get what you pay for. Do you expect a 250cc chinese sportbike that you buy brand new for $1800 to be as good as your ninja 250 that you buy for over twice that??

If they are building it to compete with the ninja 650r then i expect it to be almost as good for less $$.

Re: the Chineese are coming!

Bike magazine in GB really liked the naked version and alluded to the ST. They were like the Koreans a decade ago but their quality is improving at a very rapid pace. I like the ST and truth is there aren't many middle weight ST mounts.

Bring it in at 6-7K with parts available and decent reliability and they should do well.

Search out the article. They REALLY liked the naked version.

Re: the Chineese are coming!

I can't speak for bikes but in other areas and with good QA they are getting pretty good at being world class. Anyone remember what "Made in Japan" was an indicator of cheap junk?

As long as the machine tools are made in Germany and the QA is spot on, it doesn't matter who loads the part to be milled...

I remember the days that "made in taiwan" meant it was pure junk. China is quickly following those days and it wont be to long before they will be associated with a good product as well.

Re: the Chineese are coming!

motorcyclist had a short article on it where they went to Australia to ride the naked one and he said he went in very biased against them based on all the bad stuff that has come over but was very impressed with how well it was engineered and how well it rode.
he said the engine was smoother than the Kawasaki twin it was a clone of.

good power, nimble handling and good ride, the only thing he could not test was how well they will hold up but they are well engineered.

Half of the stuff sold in the USA is made in China. It has the US manufacturers name on it and they mark it up 150% or more. This is how they make money. The Chinese just mark it up 20% and call it good with their own name on it. I am not saying I am going to buy one, but it is everyday business here whether you like it or not.

Thats partially true. I have seen goods, mainly scooters, motorcycles, etc. that come directly from china to a distributor here and there are different grades of quality on similar items. I have seen $2500 150cc scooters that are water cooled, and the QA is first rate, then there are the $899 new 150cc scooters you mainly see. Do you not think there is a difference between the two? Everyone thinks china made means junk but to an extent the demand quantifies the product. If people didnt buy all the cheap stuff at walmart and instead bought the better stuff then there would be a bigger market for higher quality things and less of a market for cheaper things and china would import more high quality items...

Re: the Chineese are coming!

2 summers ago, a friend of mine bought a Chinese clone of a Honda Rebel from Pep Boys. It was fun to ride, but poorly assembled. It just kinda shook itself apart in a few months.

Did you actually use the words CLONED and IMPROVED in the same sentence?

Re: the Chineese are coming!

I'd take a closer look if they looked more like a KZ400 with mags and tubeless, or something like a Bonneville. I'm not a fan of the Morphin Power Ranger Storm Trooper look.
