Big Bend

Time to start making a plan. Not too organized, not too big. Just a relaxed ride/exploration. Anyone?

Look me up when you get here, I am on the last leg of a trip elsewhere and will be home to Terlingua the first week of October.

I went on this ride last year and may try to make it again this year.

Re: Big Bend

I'd love to go. Just got a DR650 I'm wanting to try out somewhere. slow and relaxed is definitely my speed lol. Been riding for a few years and done dirt/fire roads on my DL1000 but not too experienced in the rougher stuff or with this smaller bike. If you dont mind a noob tagging along, I bring booze and cigars..

Looks like a lot of fun. But not sure about the 30 deg camping without camp fire.

Same for me, subcomm. I'm on a ranch up in North Central Texas, but I bet that I can get some of my riding pals from down around Fayette County and Houston to join us. I just need a couple of weeks notice. All of us need to get away from civilization to taste some of Texas' best riding. I've been there many times on my road bike but never on my dirt bike.

Re: Big Bend

What kind of riding are we talking about? I'll be up for either dirt or pavement once I get back from Barstow in November.

99% of the reason to go there is to dual sport, if I am not speaking out of turn. To me that is everything I can ride that is legal-- pavement, dirt road, two track, almost never ridden two track (BBSP), etc.

Re: Big Bend

I feel you need at least 3 days of riding plus two travel days, one our and one back, total of five days. Depart to BB on a Wed and return on a Sun. What about Oct 10 thru Oct 14 or Oct 24 thru 28? What about staying at BB State Park? They have a bunk house or camping, both very nice.

10-10 thru 10-14 works great for me but I have a conflict with 10-24 thru 10-28. My bride is registered with the Houston International Quilt Show in that time frame and we can't both be gone from the ranch at the same time.

Re: Big Bend

FYI, 10-24 thru 10-28 might overlap some with hunting season start and approx half of BBRSP is closed off to riding during that time.

Re: Big Bend

You guys hash out the dates. I am a free man so can go pretty much anytime except for one weekend in Oct. So do what is good for the group and if I can I'll jump in. DS for me on an plated XR4. My only requirement is a solid roof over my head and someone else doing the cooking, no tents, no memories of the Army. . Period.

You mean you miss the dirt, the fatigue, months and years in the field, the smell of canvas on a hot summer day, and shafts of moonlight on the forest floor patrolling, chiggers and ticks, mosquitos, and no showers for weeks??!! Me neither.
