Re: Circuit of the Americas to host 2013 MotoGP

$89+ for three days? that's almost affordable.

I may just have to do that.

I keep getting emails from COTA trying to convince me to come watch F1, and it's not that I don't want to, it's just so bloody expensive!

I can do under $100 for 3 days. What I can't do is F1 unless I marry the girl whose dad is offering $65 million....

Looks like Schwantz got snookered out of his dealings with Dorna.

I hope that doesn't sour him on having his moto school, or track days, at COTA.

From what I can gather, he didn't have anything in writing. Bad practice that.

I'm in for MotoGP.

I was hoping to do the F1 in November but even the Motel 6 is $350 per night. Parking's $186 & tickets are $800. Little rich for my blood.

Re: Circuit of the Americas to host 2013 MotoGP

Because of how nuts the prices are for the F1 race this year we aren't coming back for it. Hopefully the track and hotels will get realistic with pricing. We won't be back in Austin until next year for one or more races if prices are reasonable.

Booked a hotel for that weekend. Now I'm just waiting for tickets to open up.

If you're looking for rooms, there's a lot of hotels that are already full nearby. Nearest I found is in Bastrop or Austin airport.

Re: Circuit of the Americas to host 2013 MotoGP

Any suggestions/ideas for how we might make this something TWT can take advantage of? I wonder if we could get a bock of seats, kind of like fans of particular riders do? Surely, there would have to be some meet/greets over that weekend? Anything else?

Re: Circuit of the Americas to host 2013 MotoGP

Meet and greets for sure. I think the best thing if you want to be together is general admission seats and sit on a hillside as a group. Unless there is some sort of way to get a group block of seats. I don't really understand the PSL other than people with one get first dibs for each event for the seats that they have a personal seat license for. That will probably break up large groups of seats.

Re: Circuit of the Americas to host 2013 MotoGP

Let's get a head count and we can see if there are enough of us to try to arrange a bike parking area together, or a semi-reserved General Admin section on one of the turns... Sounds really fun..

Re: Circuit of the Americas to host 2013 MotoGP

I would be interested in some sort of TWT shindig. I wanted to do F1, but not at those prices! However, 100 bucks for a 3 day ticket plus hotel wouldn't be that bad at all. Actually, at that price it would be fun instead of me having to worry about everything else I would be buying (food, gifts, clothing, etc).

Re: Circuit of the Americas to host 2013 MotoGP

If you have watched the races on TV and looked at the stands you'll see a majority of fans are seated at the start/finish and the rest of the seating is empty. I have a feeling that motorcycle racing will never sellout a venue. Best bet is to just figure out parking and meet in that area. I like the idea of general admin and take over a hillside or something. I drive by the place many times per week while working but it's hard to see all the nuances of the track and Google hasn't updated their maps to anything recent (within the last few months). In the satellite photo you can see stands and some of where stands were getting ready to be built but they're all done by now.

Then there's those of us that live close enough to not have to get hotel rooms, we can just go home every day. I do have a spare guest room and some living room floor space... might entertain letting someone stay at the house. Depends on my work schedule. I'll try to get vacation that weekend.

Reserved seating starting at $133, General admission $89 (both of which for 3 day pass)

May want to talk to the promo dept. Since it is struggling stateside, any additional advertising they can get I am sure they will relish. Of course same goes vise versa for free advertising. Maybe see if we can hang a banner in our 'block'.

I would be so in for this. I would more than likely bring my hobo shelter and stay true to the motorcycle spirit - where I lay my head is home! I wonder if they would allow camping at the track....

Great idea- +1!

I've already inquired about camping and RVs at the track- I'll let you know what I hear back.
