Someone keeps knocking my bike over...

Well, it's happened twice now. I live in a fairly nice, quiet apartment complex in Bedford. I park right in front of my apartment. But this weekend was the 2nd Saturday night in 3 weeks where someone has knocked my bike over in the parking lot. There are scratches on the right bar-end weight and on the tip of the exhaust and that's it. Doesn't appear to have been hit either time. Just seems like some idiot likes messing with me and pushing it over. The first time I thought it was a fluke, but now it seems like this may be an ongoing thing. Feeling frustrated and vulnerable. Nothing more chickens#!t than messing with a man's motorcycle when he's asleep!

Buy or borrow a game camera or internet capable camera.

Put one of those motion-sensor alarms on it http://www.jcmotors.com/p-20777-gori...x#.UHL2S44eXdk

Been using game cameras for security for some time. Skip the ones from Walmart regardless of brand, they have a 70% one year failure rate. Wild Games are a good value. Cuddeback's are top shelf! Can't speak for Moultrie, but I hear they are good.

The key is to get one with a fast trigger. Some are designed for feed plots and will not go off for a few seconds to give the time for the animals to get in the frame. Be sure to get one you can chain to a pole since they do not work through windows. (THere is one Wild Game model that you can chainto a pole and still open. Forget that one.) Some guys like IRs, some like flash. I have photos of theives that were freightened off by the flash. Some IRs may not work well in a lighted parking lot.

Skip the disc lock with alarm. Mine went off constantly no matter how it was positioned.

That is what I would do especially if it is parked by your window.

Do you know your neighbors well? Talk to the other tenants around you and ask them if they have seen anyone around your bike. ESPECIALLY children!

The kids at my old complex would run around the parking lot unsupervised and out of control. They'd throw rocks at passing cars and even apartment windows. More than once I caught them CLIMBING on my car. I would not be surprised if some kids thought it was funny to push over your bike, just because.

Tons of cool, small stuff in here.

www.scdlink.com

Self powered, motion activated, 16 hours run time, covert, SD cards or DVR in a playing card size package with a button lens.

I got a Remington branded camera from Academy. I like it much better than my SIL's "Wild Game" cam. Better resolution, does more. Cost about 40 bucks more, though.

This sort of thing, in the past, has made me want to pull some all nighters with my rifle by a window. As a more mature adult, now, I wouldn't suggest that.

Don't feel bad. My first thought was to leave a small bottle of nitro on the bike. (Now before y'all jump, I know how stupid that is, it was just my first thought)

Cameras. Then when you find out who's doing it, go and flip over their car and leave a note that says "Now you know how it feels."

Some cool stuff, but some of it is overpriced. I had an issue a while back and I did this:

Camera Camera
+
Converter Converter

The converter saves it on an SD card in ASF format, which is windows media player compatible. A few more bucks at radio shack and some batteries and mine was portable.

A game camera would be a better bet, but probably not as cheap.

Same spot both times?

Level pavement and in gear?

Toward the stand or away from the stand?

I would love to witness their reaction when they came out to their car.

I used to live at an apt complex in Bedford and the cover was always taken off my bike. I never did catch the ***, though...

Re: Someone keeps knocking my bike over...

Cameras are all nice and well, but unless you actually know the person who shows up in the pic or can identify them, it's a moot point. If the camera is clearly visible (like the game cameras people are talking about), nothing is going to stop them from taking the camera with them after they knock the bike over. If you have a wireless setup, you may end up with a pic - but again, are you going to be able to ID the person? I wouldn't count on the police making a big issue out of it either (assuming you bother to call). I was a cop for 16 years and you'd be lucky to get a destruction of property (or something similar) report for all of your troubles. If you ID the person, you'll more than likely be told to pursue it as a civil matter and that will just cost you more money. You'll have to be the judge if it's worth it or not

Putting the camera in plain sight is a deterrent in itself. Having it flash is another. I haven't had a game camera taken yet, but then I chain them to something. We're not talking about evil geniuses here, just a bunch of morons or kids. These guys didn't try to take the camers despite carrying the tools to do the job. You don't have to believe me, but the poaching and petty theft stopped once the cameras started flashing...
