I just bought me a Versys!

That's right!
I bought a leftover 2011 Imperial Red Kawasaki Versys. I am picking it up tomorrow. I'll post some pics soon.
Any other Versys riders here on TWT?

Don't take it far from the better maintained dirt roads, it and you will be grateful.

Re: I just bought me a Versys!

I love the Versys. I'm jealous. I debated Versys vs KLR, decided the KLR fit my needs better and bought used, but the Versys is a better street/road motorcycle. I'm not second guessing myself, but the Versys is a fine bike, does a lot of things very well.

Re: I just bought me a Versys!

Congrats on the Versys. Semi maintained dirt roads are doable. Our place in the desert is between nine and ten miles from pavement. Right after a rain the Versys is not the best mount, but most days it is up to the ride.

Re: I just bought me a Versys!

MissBehave rode her 09 from Houston to the Arctic Ocean this summer with me. It's an amazing almost-all-road bike - not best in deep gravel, but handles nearly everything else with aplomb. Welcome to the fold!

I like the Versys, but that 33-inch seat height is not going to work for me.

Re: I just bought me a Versys!

We need pictures!

Specifically this new 2011 RED holdover and a few of the other 'well-seasoned/farkeled' versions floating around on TWT. (coughcough Stephanie, Jeff and Rick...)

Same here... the lowering block works wonders though.

I've ridden a couple lowered bikes and the handling was soured. What happens to the Versys when lowered?

She handles just like I remember from before except now I don't dump it at the foot of the driveway every morning. I think the block drops 1.85 inches or something. Stiffened the rear up a bit, but I'm too light for the stock suspension anyhow. Forks come up in the triple about as far as they'll go before interfering with cables/controls & plastics, and voila. The short man's long-legged road bike that's a hoot and a half in the turns*.

*please take with grain of salt; I barely know how to corner at speed.

Re: I just bought me a Versys!

I know I still need to post pictures but that will come in time. I've been busy riding!
I've clocked about 275 miles over Saturday afternoon and Sunday. Being a brand new bike, it's not the mileage but the time in the saddle that counts since the bike is being broken in.
This is my first Kawasaki. I've owned pretty much every brand and I do have a soft spot for Honda and BMW. I love the motor. I don't know if other Kawasaki engines have this much soul but had I known sooner, I would have bought a Kawasaki a long time ago. That little vertical twin is awesome.
The Versys is a sportbike. The chassis is stiff and composed. Yes it's a more upright position ala supermotard but it's no supermotard. I used to have a G650X Moto and they are very different bikes. The bike handles great and is a lot easier to ride over long periods of time than a typical sportbike. It just needs a taller windshield (thank you for being on your way Zero Gravity).
It's a good two-up bike. I had my girlfriend on the back for about 100 miles and she never complained. She told me it was quite comfortable. My seat was quite comfortable too and I am not sure an upgrade to a sargent is in my future.
Bottom line is I love the bike. It's always diffictult to buy something without being able to test ride it but I know I am going to enjoy this little Kawi for a good while.

Re: I just bought me a Versys!

The Versys does alot of riding really well, I rode mine 1100 miles up to northern Colorado, changed to a knobby in the parking lot of a tire store (so I could use their high pressure air to seat the bead), and then rode some C-loop maintained dirt roads all through the forest, then rode 1100 miles home on the knobby. You will love the Versys for along time I am sure.

Jake, I like your front plastics! Is that rattlecan matte or something different?

I took it on one serious off-roading trip and banged the plastics up pretty good, got me some ABS cement from lumber yard for $8 and patched it right up, finished with a coat of Bed Liner, had a guy on ADVtell me it didn't look right with 2 tone paint, and then Kawasaki came out with the 3rd pic below....

Re: I just bought me a Versys!

Thanks, butte. I'll see about riding a lowered Versys. Maybe. If I can learn to stomach all that wasted space between the rear tire and fender.

Fill the void with a couple o' tractor tubes. I've also seen mini pelicans mounted under there for tool kits.
