The stock KLR650 fender acts like a sail when I'm on the freeway, so I decided to try the Acerbis universal fender (drill the holes out myself).
That did not go so well, as no matter what I did, I could not get the holes to line up. It split down the middle and is in my trash bin now. ![]() In the mean time, I'm still riding without a fender. What have y'all done to counter the oversize stock fender problem?

You rang?
I put an acerbis super moto (universal) fender on it. Mark and drill the holes specified for a kx250 and it should work.

Re: KLR650 fender
Hancock and Grasshopper650L installed brackets on their fenders to keep them from flapping in the wind. This is the best pic I can find of the bracket on Hancock's bike (on the left). Should work on the KLR as well.
![]() I'll give him a heads up and he can post more info.

Re: KLR650 fender
I got the KTM, lined up almost perfectly and fixed the sail problem too. $18 is what I believe I paid for it.

Re: KLR650 fender
I have used the stock KLR fender for almost 40K miles. I have heard many complain about the front fender but, it doesn't seem to bother me at all. YMMV

Re: KLR650 fender
KTM fender is the way to go. I have changed mine out and just got back from the Harvest Classic driving back to Dallas in the crosswind today. Before the stock fender would give you the willies. Today no sail effect and I was running 70-80 mph all the way back . Best cheap investment I have made to this bike. Bolt holes line up almost perfectly . You only need to enlarge them a little bit and it is a perfect fit.

Re: KLR650 fender
Yep, KTM supermoto fender is the way to go. http://www.ktm-parts.com/5030801020030.html
Front holes should line right up (may have to widen just a bit). Back holes will need to be widened on the outer corners. Also, if you haven't already, remove the stock handguards as they make the bike unstable at speed as well.

Re: KLR650 fender
Just noticed you have a 2000 model. KTM fender should still work but not sure about how the holes line up in comparison with a 2nd Gen KLR.

Re: KLR650 fender
Why not get the new KLR front fender? They didn't change the forks so it should bolt straight on and it is more of the supermoto style with the pointy front.

Re: KLR650 fender
If you ride around the coastal bend much, you'll know what wind is.

Re: KLR650 fender
I cut about 3.5 inches off the front of my fender.
![]() Yeah.......it's a Honda....but it has a big honkin front fender like the KLR. To keep the stock radius on the front end of the fender I put blue painters tape over the first couple of inches of the fender and had about 0.5 inch of the tape hanging over the front end and sides. I trimmed the tape with my pocket knife to follow the shape of the fender. When I moved the tape back to where I was going to cut the fender, the fender was a little wider than the tape mock-up. So I cut the tape mock-up into two halves and put a straight piece of tape across the fender where I was going to cut it, then I lined up the two mock-up tape pieces along the sides and front of the fender. I cut it with my dremel then used a sanding bit on the dremel and with a light touch smoothed/rounded the cut. You could actually shape the front any way you want to. Or.....you could just cut it straight off and be done with it. The possibilities are endless!

I switched over to a 2009 DRZ400 front fender. Works great in heavy winds.

Re: KLR650 fender
I tossed on a Cycra Supermoto fender and it's great! You'll have to drill it out but just use the stock fender as a template and you'll be good to go!
