Super Tenere insurance

Does anyone here have a quote for comprehensive coverage on an ST 2012? I ran one through progressive today and got over $1,200.00 per year.

Re: Super Tenere insurance

$204 per year with Progressive.

Coverage includes $750 deductible, comp., collision, no uninsured/underinsured, minimum liability, multiple bike policy, clean driving record.

Now that I'm riding the Tenere exclusively, it's time to add un/under insured and increased liability limits.

Premiums are like numbers on an underwriter's dart board-wherever the dart lands is what you pay. It pays to shop around and Progressive just happened to be the best deal out there for me.

Re: Super Tenere insurance

Yes, I'm under 25 and pay a ridiculous amount on insurance for a 2012 Super Tenere... I've got a spotless driving record but still pay like crazy. I've read up that there are some weird things about certain insurance companies mis-classifying the bike as a sport bike and it’s been driving up insurance premiums.
I wrote my high price up mostly to my young age… shopping around yielded the same results everywhere..
All in all the bike is well worth the premium I love my Super Ten

Those categorizations by the insurance industry are just nuts. On my R1150gs I pay $165.00 for a year, full everything

Re: Super Tenere insurance

Progressive and Geico have a lot of advertising to pay for.....

The premium rates are just all over the place. The insurance on my 2000 Sprint dropped moving from Austin to Denver (Aurora), it went up quite a bit moving from the Sprint to a 2012 Concours 14, more than I expected but still not too bad.

You'll love turning 25 - so many things get cheaper. Of course, your hair will start falling out, but.........

I don't know how some of you get such inexpensive insurance. Do you carry very low limits, no uninsured, high deductibles? I am 30 and am no where near some of the rates above, except OP, on my goldwing.

I have full coverage on a 2007 ST 1300 and I paid just under 270.00 per year. My coverages are about mid range. When I checked with my agent about maxing out everything I can carry for liability, personal injury, property loss, and everything else I was right at 456.00 per year. However, I think it's worth mentioning that I'm 43 and have no tickets or accidents on my record.
The funniest insurance thing I have seen is when I checked on adding a 2000 KLR 650 to my insurance policy. My overall bill was going to go down about 5.00 per month because the 20% multi bike discount was more than the cost to insure the KLR!

That certainly influences it. What's nice about Progressive is that you can go to their website and play what-if -- move your deductibles for different coverages up and down, figuring out how to get what you need for the least money.

Re: Super Tenere insurance

Another funny thing happened to me regarding the insurance on my Tenere... I called the company to update my marital status to married... Which I expected would drop my premium... But it increased the premium.... The lady on the phone was like... "let me talk to my supervisor.."

Long story short they told me to not bother updating it since it was going to increase my premium and nobody could figure out why it was going up instead of down...

Call your local insurance agent and ask them quote you through Dairyland.

Re: Super Tenere insurance

I was one of the first to get a Tenere in Tx. I looked far and wide to find reasonable insurance. After getting quotes as high as $1400 I tried some companies that not among the top runners.

I ended up with Nationwide and got a fair bid. They did want to see pics of the bike to make sure it was not a rocket. LOL

Anyway, I ended up paying in the low 400, for 500 deductible and full coverage. When I put my WRR on, the price went down.

I should say, I have not had a ticket in quite a while, I'm 68 and have an 820 credit rating.
The age and the credit rating are the important items. But you also need to find a company that classifies the bike properly. ymmv

What is the easiest way to compare prices? I don't have the lowest rates but they aren't rediculous high either. Living in Travis County may have a big effect on the rate.

I go and see an agent. Decide what or how much coverage you want or need.
Have all of that on paper and start seeing other company agents. You will be able to compare apples with apples. If they don't have the exact same numbers, take that into account.

I also think you're correct about living in a certain county or in a rural area.
Of course if you are using the bike to commute, that will raise the price.

Re: Super Tenere insurance

Next to required-by-law liability coverage, the most important coverage to get is UM/UIM (uninsured/under-insured).

On the average in Texas, if you get hit, there's about a one-third chance that other the driver will have no insurance. If you're hurt, you're simply "S.O.L." except for what your health insurance pays the docs/hospital.

Re: Super Tenere insurance

It is sad that your credit score plays a big factor in your insurance rates. If you pay your premium what does it matter who else you do or don't pay on time? I am 30 and ride a 01 ZRX1200, my annual premium is $365 almost maxed out with uninsured/under insured.

I deal with Dairyland, I have not found anyone who can come even reasonably close to their prices regardless of the level of insurance.

Ask an actuary. In short, there is a link between financial responsibility and other kinds of responsibility, like driving carefully, not drunk, etc. For better or worse, higher credit score people do other things (on average) more responsibility just like they take care of their finances. They also tend to live in safer places, park in safer places, secure vehicles better... less theft. And they don't tend to make as many claims. IE, someone with a lot of money might just pay for a small repair rather than make a claim if a bike is knocked over, for example, because they don't want to impact their insurance. These are all provable trends.
