LAB2LV

I found this event early in the year and decided I wanted to take a crack at it. But I never made it past buying a dual sport (which I then sold because I didn't like it). At any rate, I'm still filled with envy! That has to be an awesome experience. I'll keep it on my bucket list...

Or the cloud of Dust!! And there is no shortage of dust or bike parts out here!!

The district 37 reception was great fun. Rman and I joined the after party, boy can these folks party! Later we each blew $5 in the casino. We got separated when he met some chick at the slots. Thrasherg went tk bed early, smart. Phone hunt next. What happens in Vegas stays in the blood at least until lunch the next day, ugh!

Home at last. :zen: WOW, what an adventure!! :thumb: Many thanks to Meriden and ThrasherG for making this possible, it was a team effort from day one. 'All for one, one for all'. This last week was the most grueling endeavour I've yet done on 2 wheels :eek2:, whether it was the Barstow ride, Vegas to Palmdale via Death Valley(300 highway miles on an XR4 :brainsnap) or Box Canyon Road/Florence Coke Ovens :loco: ! Scratch 3 big ones off the bucket list. :deal:
Stay tuned for pics :photo: and vids!!:trust:

hey lets go riding this weekend ................................:duck::duck::duck:

Good, good run. Many thanks guys for the good times and comraderie. Glad you made the Coke Ovens, not everyone has to summit for the climb to be a success. I'm finally getting some food to stick to me - lost eight pounds over the week.

JMZ, Get out the Strom.

Sure it could. Man, you wouldn't believe the diversity we saw out there, they even gave out awards at the banquet Sat. night for uniqueness. There were old Triumphs, one guy was on an old Harley dirt bike, there were even 2 guys on CT90's! :eek2: :lol2: A wide range of people too, the furthest traveled award went to some people from the Philippine's (I think they were from the Philippine's). Folks from Europe, Canada, Mexico, South America, etc... there was a whole family from Japan...., you name it, everywhere! The youngest rider award went to a 15 yr old girl and the coolest award of all went to the oldest rider, get this..80 something years old!! :eek2:    We even sat with the guy at breakfast in the hotel lobby in Barstow. :sun:
The craziest award went to the guy who rode the whole thing with his girlfriend on the back.  :loco:

In for the PICS. I hope to be able to say I've done this one day, but for now at least I can say I know someone who did.

Small world, we were rolling through Bastrop yesterday morning and guess who pulls up beside us? Joel! :lol2: He waved us to a parking lot and we shot the Shinola for awhile.
M and I drove non stop there and back, sleeping when possible. The drive alone took as much out of us as the ride.

Starting with some pics. I'm not the photographer in the group, but these may answer a couple of questions.

Average road through the desert. The only way to navigate this kind of sand is to stand up, keep your weight back and your speed over 35 so you don't wallow too much.

Look closely, that dot near the top is Rman and Thrasher...

Not the best shot but you may notice behind the gas pump there is a girl riding pillion. Toughest rider of the bunch in my book.

As for unusual bikes, like Rman said there were old desert sleds, several old huskys and these:

HP2.jpg

Shortly after I crashed on the hill above, some guy on the little honda dog paddled his way to the top. The guy riding the HP two was from Austria. He had ridden it last year on a loaded 1200GS: panniers, girlfriend and all.

Lots of orange and red. A few Challenges and several larger BMWs.

I'm still getting the last bits of sand from my sinuses. This was one rough trip. I can't wait until next time.

Just finished the totals for the trip. All in all the total cost, entry, hotel, food, gas, out of pocket (it was Las Vegas after all) was almost $2K. This does nto include bike prep or fuel for the motorcycle during the ride. Worst gas price for the car was $4.00 in Blythe, Ca and the best was $3.00 in Las Cruces. Worst price overall was premium at $5.55 in Death Valley.
