If you want government to intervene domestically, you’re a liberal. If you want government to intervene overseas, you’re a conservative. If you want government to intervene everywhere, you’re a moderate. If you don’t want government to intervene anywhere, you’re an extremist. — Joe Sobran

It is no crime to be ignorant of economics, which is, after all, a specialized discipline and one that most people consider to be a ‘dismal science.' But it is totally irresponsible to have a loud and vociferous opinion on economic subjects while remaining in this state of ignorance. – Murray N. Rothbard

When one possessed of the Truth suffers from a heavy heart he is susceptible to a more dangerous affliction — the craving for power to eradicate error, to cause Truth to triumph by force. - Frank Chodorov

Where politicians flourish, long history has harshly taught us, people and their liberty wither. Where the state is god and the "public interest" worshipped, individual man will be found bleeding upon the altar. - Karl Hess

The accepted wisdom is that without the state, society would collapse into lawlessness and crime. In fact, lawlessness and crime define the very nature of the state and the society organized by it. - Bionic Mosquito

But the myth of the rule of law does more than render the people submissive to state authority; it also turns them into the state's accomplices in the exercise of its power. For people who would ordinarily consider it a great evil to deprive individuals of their rights or oppress politically powerless minority groups will respond with patriotic fervor when these same actions are described as upholding the rule of law. - John Hasnas

Zavalla, on US Hwy 69 in southern Angelina county.

X will be the tough one. I have seen signs with a big X in the middle of them with little Rs on either side of them. Coincidentally there are these long sets of stairs with the lowest bannisters I've ever seen on them just about every place I have seen these X signs!

Re: A-B-C Towns Pic Game. Round 2

Well according (yeah I know I said this before but this time its a texan source) to Texas state library, there are no "X" cities in Texas.

http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/ref/abouttx/popcity2.html

and confirmed by another source : http://txsdc.utsa.edu/tpepp/2003_txpopest_place.php

But there seem to be a "few" z's out there.

Zapata is south on the border of Mexico, south of laredo.
North zulch, is FM39 & W. TX-21 West of Madison, there is nothing left of the town but the city limits (ghost town) sign..
Zuehl CDP, Zip 78124, 7 square mile town ..(lol) pop 346, Somewhere between kirby and sequin http://www.city-data.com/city/Zuehl-Texas.html

I work 10am/7pm, I live 48 miles from work,Plano & 121, so I ride 96 miles a day.

And if you look at http://www.frappr.com/townsihaveriddenthrough my map on frappr, you can see all the places I have scooted over just to catch a photo.... I do go out to ride on lunches as well, I hate being in the office bored watching the internet/clock turning.

besides its motivation to go out and ride...

if no one grabs S by the weekend, Ill ride to sulphur spings and grab a bunch of names in that area.. its a 3 day weekend....lol I should be able to grab most of east texas names...

as for the >50 miles sure I am 30 miles from dallas myself...so not a problem....lol heck since were only suppose to use the same ones once...it will force me to ride outwards anyways... may I need to goto texarkana and grab every town from here to there... hummmm
2 days of photos....lol (I wonder if I can have my wife say yes on that one....)

PS: just checked Maps.google.com...

Start address: Dfw Airport, TX
End address: Royse City, TX 75189
Distance: 51.8 mi (about 1 hour 16 mins)

Re: A-B-C Towns Pic Game. Round 2

BTW, the USGS does list one "populated area" place name in Texas starting with "X": XX Farms Colonia. It's on FM2925 (Marshal Hutts Rd) north east of Arroyo.

http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/Ma...l&server=TIGER

As is common with colonias, it doesn't seem to be shown on highway maps. I have no idea if there's a sign there or not.

Want to be worshiped as a minor deity for 15 minutes? Kick start the ol' Hydraglide this weekend and go take a picture of XX Farms, Texas!

Scoot safe,
Tom

As has already been posted, never trust information the yankees give about Texas.

RoT (Roads of Texas) lists 55 cities, towns and communities beginning with "I".

Tom

Fun Fact: Texas is the only state in the nation that has counties beginning with "Z".

"V" is for VOLTAR.
But since Voltar is not a town in Texas, "V" will be for VOLENTE.

As a native of South Dakota and 12 year immigrant of Texas, I must rise to the occasion. Ziebach County is in Western South Dakota with the county seat of Dupree (pop 484). County population 2200.

Outstanding! I wasn't shooting from the hip; for another thread on a different board some time ago a couple of us searched for A-B-C counties. We missed it!

Scoot safe,
Tom

PS - I still want to see a picture of XX Farms.
