i don't have anything against Harley's, obviously! Yet the weight of that thing and the taller suspension, ugh!

Not sure I would like that, going to lighter bikes. Also the Yamaha scrambler is in the same class IMHO.

I used to ride a Gold Wing...05, I know heavy!

Phil

Believe it or not, an XR is only about 35 pounds heavier than a TW, and has a lower seat height. Of course, adding lights, horn, brakes, fat tires, and fuel capacity would add some weight, but you're still looking at well under 400 pounds wet, with luggage. As for height, stock seat height is only about 31 inches unladen so not a problem adding a couple inches of suspension and gel padding. I'd also look at an extended swingarm as the stock wheelbase is only 54 inches. Perhaps a bit more rake, too. There's definitely "room for improvement" in converting over to an adventure bike, so much so that I'd probably start with a one-off custom frame to incorporate modern brake and suspension components, and a ringed final drive chain.

Just wait until I win the lottery. :rider:

Knobs on a Duke??

Recall the old joke? "The sciences may be able to tell you how to clone a dinosaur, but the humanities will tell you why it's a bad idea."

A number of ADV guys buy X Challenges then go on to change the suspension and sub-frame, add ammo can panniers, windshields, comfortable seats, and finally drop a grand on the ugliest fuel tank ever made. When they are done they have an adventure bike that is only half as good as a stock F650GS at twice the price. It seems that purpose built starts with a blank sheet of paper rather than an accessory catalog. Blame John Penton.

The rough thing about knobs on a Duke is that there are several other KTMs that will be faster and more fun on gravel or off road. And with the wrong tires the Duke is never going to perform the way it was meant to on pavement.

Some of these new standard designs are pretty cool looking and tricking them out to look like old desert sleds or cafe bikes is a fun novelty. Perfect for runs around town and car shows. Did I say novelty?

I think this could happen around here this week, be careful out there!

are y`all okay in Huntsville ?
left at 6am
seen the flashes come from the north.

Wondering how our SHNF is fairing with THIS RECENT EVENT especially the east side?

for our next weather event
(Hail rain & Tornados) flash floods expected spotter activated events.
(Hurricane season June 1st)

It's a KLR that's what he was thinking! Those bikes can do anything, go anywhere and the best choice when the apocalypse comes . That was soley rider error, he just forgot to put up his periscope. Lol

I didn't know Christini did any of the big bikes.

I rode one of their mountain bikes around a parking lot one time.
