Riding thru Colorado today.

Took a ride today over toward Lake Daniel. The route was to Caddo, then south on gravel to 207. Turned west toward Breckenridge to 576. Rode down to the lake. Primitive camp sites. Not much there. Then I took some gravel roads making my way back to 717. Stopped at the DQ in Ranger for a hamburger. Took I-20 back to 281 and stopped to visit with Bert for a while. 166 miles today. Used about 1/2 tank, meter says 142 miles left. Not too bad.

I like those hammock trees at the lake. Perhaps camp there in a couple of weeks!

Mudclod got it figured out. Y'all better get out this weekend and take advantage of the decent temp and humidity. Hellfire right around the corner 🌡️

Got some good rain out here last night, so the traction in the gravel was awesome, and the dust was low. Heck of a good day!

My friend Joe Dawson (in the red & gray jacket) and I rode down from the Phoenix area this morning to Amado to have breakfast with SEAT - South East Arizona Touring riders at the Longhorn Grill & Saloon. Nothing special about the ride as it was 75% interstate and then a couple of secondary roads on the way home. Temp at 6 am was nice and cool, probably about 65; and then 93 when I got home at 1 pm - "but it's a dry heat".

The breakfast itself was lousy; my pancakes were so overcooked they were almost toasted, but it was probably their first large group in the past year so I certainly cut them some slack on that. Service was good and friendly, it's just too bad that the food didn't rise to the same level.

The company was good; most of the folks at my table were long term riders of multiple brands although this is primarily a BMW club. I had two VN vets sitting at my table so I got to talk about the Tour Of Honor a little bit.

Many of the riders had already left when I took my photos, so this will give you some indication of just how many folks did attend and the variety of brands/models that everyone rode.

Today's route. South to Amado, back up to Picacho Peak, east on Park Line Rd to the Florence Highway (79), north to the Florence Prison where the Hells Angels make their annual biker run to support their "brothers" on the inside, then west to Coolidge and back north to home. Right at 300 miles for the day.

The place we ate at is famous for their exterior decoration and you may have seen it featured in various movies that have been filmed in Arizona. The skull and building have been around since 1970, but even as a native Arizonan this was my first time to eat there.

Been raining or threatening to rain almost everyday here. Had to work yesterday morning but got out for a late afternoon ride. Rode a little over 100 miles and had 10 to 12 water crossings that are normally not there. Did not get rained on but had a couple of times where I just missed the rain. Overall a good ride.

Was not planning on riding anywhere today besides to work for my CPR recert.
Was only a 1 hour thing, so when I got out at 9:30, it was very nice out still, so I just started heading west out I-10 from Katy.
After about 30 minutes of riding, I decided to do 2 of my "Tour of Texas" landmarks.

I got the Gonzales Jail Museum:

and the La Salle Monument (I never recall ever hearing about La Salle before this):
2021-05-26 13.53.14.jpg

Ironically there is another La Salle statue in Navasota, just down the street from the coffee shop for the tour (but hard to get a pic of, but I may still try just because).

Also came across a cool looking Cobra helicopter at VFW 4403 while riding to the monument:

I usually ride by a lot of these but never bother to stop and take a picture.
I think I may start taking pics of vehicles at VFW's I come across.

So about 360 unplanned miles today (Google map link if you are interested), and only got a little sprinkle of rain (was cloudy for bit though).
