I hope there where no serious injuries and that you all had a great time.. I would have loved to ride it again this year, but Seattle is just too far away.. Cant wait to see all the pics..

Gary

Gary you both were missed this year. No serious injuries that I'm aware of. Several ,including myself with black and blue. Seems that more bikes than normal with mechanical problems. But none left in the field. But the chase vehicles were used this year.

Come join us next year.

Ki and the only 2 stroke that I saw in the ride. I really would have been nice to have a bike a hundred pounds lighter than my DRZ.

IMGP0083Large_zps8a68bbd8.jpg

Ki and I got split up from the group. Both of us had a working GPS so
after about 5 minutes we continued on without them. As it turns out
we should have waited 10 minutes because they eventually headed
back the correct way.

About 15 minutes later my GPS lost the track and I had no idea where
I was but Ki kept us on course. Finally I rebooted the unit and reloaded
the track and all was right again.

Made it back in plenty time to set camp and get some BBQ in our
gut before the rain settled in.

I had myself a pretty good ride. The ONLY time I felt I was going down
was in the long stretch of sand on the way back Saturday. I don’t get
much practice in sand around here so maybe I need to head to
Falls county and get some practice in there. Suppose to be some
good sections of sand roads.

Nine Mile Lane was great, I could camp at Beans and ride that stretch
back forth all weekend.

My DRZ ran great all weekend long, never missed a beat.

Once again thanks to everyone involved in putting this together.

So it was well documented that only 3 of the 6 one day riders finished the entire route.

From both North and South groups what was the final tally? From my observations at Rusk and reading posts here I think it was only 6 riders total from both three day groups that finished. So 6 of what? about 30 riders?

Not a good year for finishers I guess.

Never did get an accurate count but 35 to 40 including Dirty butt. Dirty butt finished 50%. And of the 30 or so, including north and south, ONLY five riders finished all 3 days. Thanks Travis for getting the only group to finish. You were the MAN !!

Well we came up to a gate and had to cut thru the
bush to get around it and you will not guess what

Had this been rifle deer season there would have been

We stopped for lunch here. They had the whole town
history in pictures on the walls inside and had pictures of

We started with a group of 4 and 3 of us did every mile of the three routes. We also did 9 mile road 2 times for fun.

Rick what time did you guys take off Sunday morning? When I was rallying the troops at 7am I didn't see you at KOA. We would have enjoyed riding with you in our small group.

Later Travis

Mr Bean had a kick *** cannon. He said it was a French
War ship cannon if I remember correctly. He loaded
Black Powder in it and then put in a beer can that
he had put concrete in. When it was shot KABOOM
and we would hear an echo that sounded like thunder
and then seconds later we would hear a splash as it landed
way out there in the water.

We pulled in for gas and I noticed
my fork seals were leaking. It helps to have a son
along who is a motorcycle mechanic. He pulled
the seal and packed paper towels in it and put the
seal back and a fantastic temporary fix.
Thanks Chad

We spotted this prisoner. Check out those stripes.

I should start this story out with "Now this ain't no Sh**"
I checked my oil at one stop in the middle of nowhere.
It was not even on the dip stick. Travis checked
his phone and the nearest town was 20 miles away.
I did not want to ride 20 miles with such low engine
oil and did not want to delay the ride and have someone
ride there and back to me. I looked around and we were right
by a shack. Junk was all over the place. Maybe they would
have some oil I could buy from them. I went around to the
back porch expecting to see a kid with a banjo in a swingm
and knocked on the door. Dogs barked inside
but no answer. In all the junk on the back porch here was a
Wal Mart bag with two quarts of oil in it. I picked up one and
grabbed my wallet and found a clip board in the junk. I pulled
some cash out and put it on the clip board so it would not blow
away. Very cautiously walking back to the bike expecting to
hear either a banjo playing or a gun shot going off, we filled up my
bike and headed on our way.

Danny, where are the KToooooM crash pictures? It always hurts when you crash but when you destroy such a spendy but well made touring bike, it hurts just a little bit more.

Hello All,

Wonderful pictures and stories, but a few of those last ones sting a bit :tears:

Well I went to the doctor after I got home, and the doc said that from my next down you couldnt really tell I'd wrecked a motorcycle. However my neck had signs of whiplash and I ended up with a decent concussion and have been forbidden from driving till Wednesday and and physical activity for 1-2 weeks. so all we can figgure is I took the brunt of the fall with my ol noggin. Go figgure.

While I do have full coverage, as of now the insurance company says theyre thinking about calling it a complete loss. If they do, I think im gonna tell em to sit on it. Theres still a perfectly good bike under all that cracked plastic.

And now, I need to thank everyone for making this event what it was. Thanks to timbercat and his wife for arranging the whole event and givin me a ride home after my spill. Thanks for John and Travis for leading groups Sat and Sunday. And a special thanks to Travis, Harold, Ki, Chad, and Chad's dad (Sorry I forgot your name, blame it on the concussion :headbang:) for picking me up when I was down and mot making me feel like the ding dong I was for splattering me bike.

Altogether I'd say It was a fantastic weekend though. I hope to have the honor of riding with all of you again someday. And I'll report back on the progress of the bike, should know something by Friday. I will learn from this accident but not be intimidated from it. Next time I just wont be trying to keep up with 250 and 450 dirt bikes on a 550 lb adventure bike!

Ride on,
Justin

theme music playing in all our heads, da-da-dling ding ding ding ding.... Kaboom! Who just took ma olll?

I noticed the Heidenau K60 on the front of the KTM that went down......did you lose the front end? :zen:
While this is most certainly a long-wearing if noisy front tire; I think it should be billed as an 80/20 tire and NOT a 50/50. It does NOT grip well off-road, based on the last 3000 miles on my KLR. Fine on the street, good in the rain, though.....;-)
