Post your Day Rides Here!

Valentines Day? Anniversary? Uhhhh...BTW, Honey. I ain't here. Gone riding. :)

Hey. I put the roses from Target in a nice "vase". And the card cost $6. Come'on. That's not that bad, right? Help me out here.

First stop. Friday night. Coopers/Llano. I blame the dinner choice on a lack of imagination. Simply not as good as it used to be. TXjames.

Legends in Junction. Dodging deer. Thanks to James' Kleig lights, we make it.

Met up with Schizzman, Boulder Ed, Wilkie and crew (Stelvio and giant Trumpet) and Tsostie for King Burger in Rock Springs.

We invaded. ;)

Hit the Sisters just right. Didn't have to pass anybody. Oh, we passed them. Just didn't have to. :) Fun. Fun. Sorta- legal-ish fun.

My packing left something to be desired.

Other than the two left feet, it was a very good day!

When we got back to Junction ...

Boulder Ed staked claim to Schizzman's brand spanking new waterboxer GSAdventure

Schizzman, Boulder Ed and I walked across the street to La Familia. Great family owned Mexican restaurant.

I got up early Sunday and dodged deer up to Llano on 377 and 29. In the fog. Put myself on the back bumper of a Cummins and used him as my "deer catcher".

Took the Canucks Mark and Richard to the Horny Hunter for breakfast.

Wait. I think that might be "Hungry Hunter". My bad.

Took them down Bikejones favorite CR315 Click Road. Welcome to Texas!

Dodging deer. Again. Sheesh. What a maroon. My Big Ugly's headlight has apparently been adjusted for coon hunting. But I made it back to the ranch.
Real nice day. Real nice.

A great 50 hours away from the grind. Grinding begins again in about 3 hours.

Maybe one of these days my off time can coordinate with your ride planning and I can join y'all ! ! ! :rider: :eat:

Looks like a blast. Last time I rode the sisters I was on a DRZ. It's time to go back with a big bike.

Slowoldguy, good meeting everyone Sat,good day for a ride.Ended up riding the sisters, got back to Utopia without using our deertags.Doesn't get much better.

The Mrs. encouraged me to go for a ride this afternoon. I went east hitting 4 counties including Travis, Williamson, Lee and Bastrop. Mostly back roads with names like Marlin, Wolf, Paint Creek, Old Potato, Antioch just to name a few. Changing back and forth between paved and dirt. Just what this blue beast was made for. First time through Bastrop SP since the fires. Park Road 1 used to be the best ride, not any more. A nice twisty path but just isn't the same. Still smells like burned wood. Finished by riding through the Steiner Ranch between Bastrop and Elgin. About 125 miles and 2 1/2 hours. :rider:

P1C is different after the fire, but it's easier to be safe on that road now since the sight lines have opened up. All the twists are still there and you can run it a little faster.

Silver lining?

Making best of a bad situation. Still have watch for pedestrians and cyclists which were out in force today. One couple strolling right down the middle of the road.

I am glad that you got out; stretched the legs on that 1200 a bit! :rider: :sun:

Good ride Bruce. We can't match the scenery, especially the pic of the old house, but James, Wayne & I did a ~200 mile loop yesterday including a pass thru the Sabine National Forest and a cheeseburger at Holly Park Marina :eat::

I dunno; your scenery looks pretty good too. And a cheesburger too. Good ride

Thanks Mark. It was good to get out.

Ragin Cajun Wine Tour

i-CvhNdwb-M.png

To commemorate the Madri Gras, there was an event in the Texas Hill country called the Raging Cajun Wine Tour. This is where a group of wineries near Johnson City and Fredericksburg were hosting wine tastings paired with Cajun style seafood samplings. Lyekkka (my Ural), has been having lot of mechanical problems and I just now have this Russian piece of s@@t running and with pending trip to Big Bend next week, a round trip to test everything seemed to be in order.

So the Saint (my child bride) and I load up on Lyekka for a day of wine and seafood.

A regular passenger (Hunter, the wonder dog) expresses his displeasure with not being along for this ride
i-pG8D4J2-M.jpg

We head north. Part of the reason for this trip is to make sure that all is running well so I don't break down in the middle of the Big Bend desert. As we ride along it occurs to me that I will be worse off if I break down with the Saint as my passenger. Just a few days ago, we had a flat and this is a picture I snapped of the Saint as she waited for me to change the tire.
i-9vcf3gS-M.jpg

Perhaps I did not think this out well.

It's a long ride to the first winery, so we stop for a break at a nice little cafe in Dripping Springs.

i-Wzszpgt-M.jpg

i-7NPGtMH-M.jpg

After refueling, we continue north to our first winery on the trip east of Johnson City. The Texas Hills Vineyard.

The friendly barkeep server us some tastings
i-WQDCmZD-M.jpg

We were served a few Cajun shrimp and chose a nice white wine to purchase. Each winery participating in this event gave out Madri Gras style beads. Here the Saint models her set of beads
i-HQ3c9Bm-M.jpg

Next we head down the road to the small town of Hye and visit the Hye Meadow Winery
i-kr9ngMv-M.jpg

We are served a nice Cajun gumbo
i-n6Pkx6v-M.jpg

After a round of tastings we select a nice blush
i-X6BdKTZ-M.jpg

Also in Hye was the William Chris Vineyards, and this is our next stop
i-bpgtR2V-M.jpg

i-tFhcMGV-M.jpg

i-VnFxDCW-M.jpg

They had a nice deck and we had a small sip of wine
i-NTmCTpz-M.jpg

We were treated poorly by the staff there which explains the sour look on my face. We had been buying a bottle of wine at each location but we did not here because of the way we were treated. I will never return.

Not to let a poor business from ruining our day, we head towards Stonewall to visit our next winery. Pedernalas Cellars
i-mkC6wGM-M.jpg

i-254zWtH-M.jpg

i-xSVqGh9-M.jpg

They served up some great Cajun gumbo paired with a Pedernales Cellars Tempranillo Reserve. This is a top notch place and a big improvement from the sleazy William Chris Winery. I like that wine a LOT and that was my choice but when I find out how much it cost, I had to settle for a lower priced rose. It was nice afternoon so we enjoyed some samples on their open air deck. There was a man and woman playing some nice music and we bought one of their CDs. I wish I had thought to take some more pictures but I guess I have had to many wine tastings.

Onward to Woodrose winery
i-7xbQh7q-M.jpg

By now it is mid afternoon and we are getting hungry so we order a cheese plate with a wine tasting. The cheese was good and the wine was good, almost too good. When one buys a round of wine tastings you typically only get a sip of wine per tastings. The nice lady pouring our wines, however, poured half a glass with each tastings. There were 8 tastings in the round we selected and I had to tell her to pour less wine because I still needed to be able to pilot my motorcycle. We braved through the tastings and selected a nice red for our choice from this fine winery.

Now on to perhaps the largest winery in the area. Becker Vineyard
i-pnfXPHp-M.jpg

i-kX7fBvJ-M.jpg

This too is a top notch winery. We have been here many times in the past so we did not need to do a tasking, I knew what wine I was going to purchase here. Their Malbec is great, so that is what we bought. Besides after Pedernales, if I drank any more wine I would not be able to ride home.

Our eldest son and his wife were in the Fredericksburg area so we arranged to meet up here.
i-QbpwV8X-M.jpg

This is us sporting our collection of beads
i-Mp4LnM7-M.jpg

There are several wineries remaining on the tour but It's now time to head home. I had forgotten to mention before, but because I had recently replaced both pistons, I need to keep the speed down so I select a back roads "shortcut" swinging by Luckenbach. We had this plan to get home before it got dark or cold. Well we failed on both counts.

I managed to turn a 1 1/2 hour ride into a 2 1/2 hour journey down dark roads. It is very dark and very cold, but we make it home.

Our booty from the trip complete with our collection of beads collected during the trip

End of trip report. Have a winey day!

I was able to get out for a little while today and ride a couple of neat roads.

Nice ride, good video to watch, and excellent music.

Who was that singing "Five O'Clock World"? It sure wasn't the Vogues!

Cool winery tour! I'm glad you didn't have your bad experience at Woodrose... good buddy is one of the owners ;)

Here's mine. Me and a couple of buddies (Paul and Ted) are doing the ADVRIDER NOOB Rally up in Death Valley at the end of the month. The other guys haven't been motocamping in a while. One hasn't been camping since college. So we decided to do a shake down cruise to make sure everything was working right.

Glad we did cause "hasn't been camping since college" (Ted) brought an old Marmot sleeping bag from the mid 80s that he used when he was a kid, and a brand new REI half dome that he hadn't had time to practice setting up due to work. Here are the pictures.

Here we are about 2 miles onto the dirt.

Paul stopped to help Ted up a challenging section of trail and when he went to remount his bike the sidestand broke though the top soil and his bike went down. Facing downhill. Was a bear to pick up. But being the good friend I am I helped him pick it up......after taking a picture

Ted standing triumphant after the worst hillclimb of the day. Semi-Loose and rutted out picking a smooth line was paramount on the big Stroms.
1781927_10203562758975705_884162576_n.jpg

Time to start moving again. Recent rains had created some good sized ruts on portions of the trail. A trail that you would be running at speed of 30 or 40 would sneak narrow ruts up on you that were camoflauged by the road.
1979887_10203570408886948_1431957290_n.jpg

Stopping for a minute to look at my right hand driving light. I dropped the bike (but there were no pics so it never happened haha) in a uphill rut. You can kind of see the way it's pointing down at the ground.

Another Water break
1979850_10203570409566965_290578909_n.jpg

The latch on my old Givi E350 top case finally gave up the ghost after the epoxy that I used to meld it back together a few months ago finally failed and wouldn't stay latched anymore. Since I was carrying the precious booze in the topcase Ted quickly volunteered one of his spare ROK Straps to keep the lid closed :lol2:

Ted goes to setup his tent. But I notice something doesn't look right here. I take a closer look and start laughing. I'll see if anyone notices what is wrong here ;-)

The next morning.........Yes that's left over snow on the ground. It didn't snow on us that night but it had been snowing about a week ago. I'd imagine this was quite the site about that time.
