Stumbled across Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge last weekend, while enjoying backroads NE of Sanger. Had no idea it was there. 1.5 hrs north of DFW. A fun place to explore and get some gravel, next time will leave time for fishing...

I grew up in Denison (still have parents & brother there) and have spent many days at Hagerman fishing & viewing wildlife. Hagerman is an example of the successful long-term coexistence of wildlife and oil production that's possible with proper management. It's not the dichotomy that some ecologist and environmentalist would have you believe. Generally less damaging than large wind generator and solar energy farms. It's a sight to behold when thousands of geese and ducks fly into to the grain plots at Hagerman in the fall.

I need to remember that. I'm up in that area a fair amount and sometimes travel through Hagerman on the way to the lake for a change of scenery.
