Whistler Canada vacation lots of pics

Took a little trip up north to a ski resort called Whistler in British Columbia Canada. Weather was great, people where the friendliest I have ever encountered while on vacation and the mountains lakes and waterfalls were majestic.

Landed in Vancover about 8pm pacific time. It was starting to rain. Got a rental car and headed to up north on the Sea and Sky highway 99. Whister is about 70 miles (110 Km) from Vancover. What a scary drive. Road construction in the rain almost the entire way. Canada is preparing for the 2010 Winter Olympics so lots of construction going all around the area. When finally got into Whistler, about 4 hours later, found the resort office and no room reservation on file because the booking agent had canceled our reservation. We had the paper work so they put us up in a room for the night. Next day we were given a very nice 2 bedroom with full kitchen and hot tub and all was well.

Here are some pics.

Vancover Airport, very cool diorama as you deplane.

Our ride up the mountain

On the way up the mountain we saw this. In the local papers it was reported that four bears were shot this year for home envasion. Two people were mauled very badly. It’s a very serious problem especially for hikers.

There are several parks with waterfalls between Vancover and just north of Whistler. Excellent hiking and bike trails, but we weren't outfitted well enough to explore but we did visit a few parks and got some pics.

While at Whistler there was a mountain bike rally called CrankWorx. They turn the ski slopes into a bike course. The ski lift the bikes and riders up the hill and watch fly down.

here are some pics of the event.

Good to see you wised up and started taking Donna on a vacation every now and then instead of always running off to do bike trips :-P :lol2: :thumb:

Looks beautiful there... I have read quite a few riding reports from that area and would LOVE to get up there for some riding :rider:

I used to go up to Vancouver every week to work up on Burnaby Mountain. A number of years ago, we went skiing at Whister. I love the area and the people, really really nice. :thumb:

Looks like you had a good time. Thx for sharing the pix.

I've skiied Whistler once and mountain biked the second time. It's actually possible to do both at certain times of the year. I haven't seen that though. Rode throught it 3 times too. Very beautiful place. It's the next best thing to an actual Swiss village, IMO, only more touristy. I really hope the construction for the Olympics doesn't destroy what's so charming about the place.
