We had a blast today meeting everyone and seeing familiar faces again. I love putting faces and names to screennames. We had a great time eating lunch with SmithR (Bob) and Red Brown. Today was my first time riding two up on my bike and I believe my daughter enjoyed her first ride with me. I should have asked someone to take a picture of us on my bike.

Here's a couple of shots of the day. Even a couple of our littlest TWTexans!

Scott and Beth, it was great to meet you and your little ones. Can't wait to see them on bikes.

tortuga and I are home (about 6:30 or so). I dropped Soozy off at pacman's for the crazy Burleyville party and DFW Dano, Skull of Energy, tuckertaft escorted the wife to within a couple blocks of the house. They supposedly headed for Bedford.

Steve and Wendy (teryxer and "wendy and steve") were doing some cycle store shopping in Waco, so hopefully they made it back with some cash left in their account...

Thanks to Kurt for suggesting 29 and 1660 into Hutto :thumb: - by far the best roads in that area. We road 'em comin' and goin'! :rider:

Looking at some pictures - details later...
Both of us are tired and sore.

:tab We rolled in about 8:00pm. Had to stop in College Station on the way home for dinner at Rudy's BBQ :trust: I'm beat. I'll try to post up pics tomorrow, although I did not take very many. The food was great at the Texan Cafe in Hutto. I believe there were 54 bikes counted before people started leaving and somewhere around 70 people.

:tab If you did not get your Pie Run shirt in person, we still have them and will be sending them out next week. I am still taking orders for a second run of shirts. They came out really good. I have a few extras in L and XL in both red and blue. If you are interested, PM Blue Bomber (Beth) and she'll take care of you.

It was a good day for a ride....
(was a pretty amazing day, Wings over Houston Air Show followed by a little ride. Just a couple of pics posted at this time) I hated to miss IPRD events, but this was my flight today.

B17g "Thunderbird"

Here's one, of the best wife in the world, but I am biased. :trust:

IPRD Panhandle Group Reporting In

Usually, the Panhandle would have a hard freeze and winds by now, but not yesterday. It was a beautiful day in the panhandle. Here are the participants:

Len (me) pb641, black 1600 Classic, wife and daughter Lenzy drove support truck
James "Lonestarrider", black Spirit 1100
Kyle "Wingherder", gold GL 1500
Danny, green Vulcan 900
Kelly, black ZX10-R
Josh, "PlainviewVulcan", red/black 900LT
Kerry, black HD Dyna Softtail
Todd, HD "sorry can't remember", but a very nice ride,
Dennis, and wife Polly, gorgeous red Gold Wing

We served up hotdogs, chili, kraut, chips, every possible condiment, and oh yeah, pie! I want to thank everyone who showed up. All participants brought some goodies except Todd. He cooked up cactus on the grill, not bad! This was our first meet and greet with more than 3-4 riders.

Amarillo riders rode 287 south to 207 south to get to the Overlook. After lunch, we rode to Silverton, Turkey, Quitaquae, Silverton, Tulia, Home, right at 220 miles. OK, if it takes 10 pictures to get one good shot, well, I took 14 pics total, sorry:

Just about everyone was there at this point. Of course my Classic, and Dennis' Gold Wing didn't want to play with the others:

Cooking and serving up dogs. Gotta love a good hot dog:

There may have only been 12 of us, but three dozen dogs didn't have a chance:

Where? The Overlook which sits about in the middle of the Palo Duro canyon system, Hwy 207 South of Claude, the little strips of white are the road winding through the canyon:

It was a GREAT day for a ride, and ride we did! We started about 7AM and arrived back at Steve's house just before dark! From there I went on to Kingwood to see my sisters new apartment, (and to get out of moving her on Sunday...) my total milage was 438! It was a great time and I look forward to the next one!

What a nice turn out! Great seeing everyone. Some of our pics (mostly my wifes). Enjoy!

Erik & I met up with Squeaky & Jar675 in Sealy and bbbrrrrr was it cold. Didn't have my heated glove ready so I suffered for a little bit. A reminder that fall is here.

Squeaky took the lead & after a couple of u-turns ;-) we joined the Houston group.

Spank made an appearance & brought a friend.

Don't have a name for her yet, any suggestions?

Got to see our friends, Amanda & Randy

and of course, Bec & Jamey

It was nice to see everyone.

Andy and I, members of South Austin Area Motorcycle Enthusiasts, combined the Harvest Classic with Pie Day.

What can I say? I was hungry. Picking up narcoleptic KLRs builds quite an appetite.

Houston Pie Run - to Sealy

Our day was not our own but we decided to make the best of it... We started out doing "family" stuff and took Harley to his TKD tournament. I must say that I am absolutely proud of how well he did! He came home with 2 gold and 1 silver medal! :sun:

We went from 8:45 to 3:45, pretty much with a whole lot of sitting around waiting for events to start. Kicking off the day with a triple board break routine = Gold
IMG_0245.jpg

Then on to the forms competition = Silver, lost to a boy who needs a haircut... we thought he was a girl! :eek2:
IMG_0258.jpg

Then, full contact sparring. Won, 5-1 = Gold
IMG_0325.jpg

After sparring, I saw this gesture... We took it to mean that he was ready for PIE!
IMG_0398.jpg

The results are not too shabby:
IMG_0418.jpg

So, on we went home, got geared up and on our way to Tony's in Sealy around 4:45/5:00 p.m. We took FM1093 West but I turned too soon on FM1489 which gave us about 10 minutes on the I-10 slab into Sealy. Harley did great on back, comfortable and still on the pillion seat without wiggling. I felt very rusty after several weeks of not riding so this was very good for me.

IMG_0428.jpg

We got to Tony's around 5:45, go in, got seated and started looking around. Nice place, very homey looking, smells were great coming from the kitchen and other diner's plates.

IMG_0427.jpg

This was the large turnout at the Houston-Sealy 2008 IPRD... Space was tight...
IMG_0429.jpg

IMG_0423.jpg

IMG_0425.jpg

Ah, dinner is served. We were starving by this point. I think the kid lost about 5 pounds through sheer sweat today!
IMG_0430.jpg

One of us ate faster than the rest...
IMG_0431.jpg

I think something was mentioned about girlfriends...
IMG_0432.jpg

Ah, sweet, sweet pi... um, cake. We have food allergies and so if it's pie filling from a can, it's a no-no. So, the cakes were from scratch!

German Chocolate...
IMG_0433.jpg

Chocolate Strawberry Cake...
IMG_0434.jpg

and last but not least, Peanut Butter Cake!... I think he was marking it with his cooties...
IMG_0437.jpg

Heading home, in the dark, the jacket felt a little tighter... And, you can plainly see that the evening's dessert selection gave J a shaky hand
IMG_0438.jpg

We got home about 8:45, freezing and much wiser about what we SHOULD have worn. But, we had a great time!

:rider:

Pie town was a no go. :argh: My two main ridding buddy for this trip could not make it. One had an accident in his truck  and was going back to Texas for a new one. The other had something come up. :ponder:

So I decided to do a DS ride to Cloudcroft for some pie. I did a route on my GPS and was on my way at about 10:30am.
IMG_0019.jpg

IMG_0020.jpg

At about 11:00am, my extra gas tank fell off the rack but was still attached by the strap. As I was get off the DR she decided to take a nap...(no damage, no pics, so it didn't happen....right. )

Well all was going well and I was about 1/2 to 2/3 the way to Cloudcroft when I can across this. :miffed:

IMG_0022.jpg

IMG_0023.jpg

IMG_0024.jpg

I had gone through about 6 gates already and none of them were locked. Some had a sign that said "Please close gate" but that was it. So I had to look for another route.

On my way back I came around a curve and into some ruts.....while my front tire went into one and my back tire into another, I just went over the handlebars. (Again no damage, no pics so it did not happen  )

Well, to make a long story a little shorter, I reached pavement in Hope, NM with Cloudcroft 70 miles to my left and Artesia 20 miles to my right. At this point I had done about 100 miles on the DR and my butt was starting to :tears: I  and turned right.

But I was not out, I headed for Denny's for breakfast. :eat:
IMG_0025.jpg

and of course
IMG_0027.jpg

I still had a great time but I need to get a better seat for the DR before I do this again. And a skid plate.

Here is our Pie Run report.
We rolled from beautiful Burleson around 7:00 AM in crisp mid 40 degree weather. We rode the I-35 super slab going down south. We made it to Hillsboro before stopping briefly for the courthouse pic for Hill county.
100_3310.jpg

I thought it was neat shot with part of the building in the early morning sun and part in shadow.
We rode on the West where stopped for breakfast at The Stockyard Café.
100_3311.jpg

Breakfast for two
100_3312.jpg

The food was great, but service was a bit slow. They were pretty crowded with a early morning Saturday bunch. It is not a very big place, and they do smoke there. It wasn’t to bad however. We rode on to Waco and grabbed this pic of the courthouse there in McLennan county.
100_3314.jpg

We also grabbed a quick geo-cache near the courthouse before riding on, but I did no take any pics.
We made in the Pie Run Destination at close to noon.

Our pie selections, mine was chocolate fudge with Blue Bell ice cream.
100_3324.jpg

Kathy’s choice was blackberry cobbler al a mode.
100_3325.jpg

Kicking tires outside afterwards it was starting to get pretty warm in the afternoon.

100_3330.jpg

A nice pair of matching Wee Strom’s
100_3331.jpg

I think Squeaky(Rebecca) was arranging a group photo.
100_3332.jpg

We were the last to leave as there was virtual geo-cache just up the street from the café involving the hippo statue.
We turned north on FM1660 leaving Hutto riding north to 29. We caught up to Chuck and his group when we turned onto 29, but left them when we turned right on 95. They went to the left. We crossed over Granger Lake Dam. It was after we got on some county roads we did some adventure bike riding on this gravel road for a few miles.
100_3333.jpg

100_3335.jpg

Who says you can’t adventure ride on a touring bike?
We got back on pavement after about 5 or 6 miles then our route took us down another gravel. Kathy said she needed the experience riding on these types of roads so go ahead, but CR403 soon turned into dead end at a creek. So we had to turn around and backtrack a couple of miles to pavement. There was no harm done except that bikes got pretty dirty.
We finally made it into Rogers then continued north stopping near a community called Leeburg for some geo-caches. We were stopped on the side of the road getting one of the caches when I took these shots.
100_3336.jpg

100_3337.jpg

We stopped in Marlin for the Falls county courthouse pic
100_3338.jpg

We also grabbed another geo-cache near the courthouse. By this time it was close to 5:00 PM so we decided to take a more direct route home. So jumped on the super-slab at Waco and made it to the Party at Pacman’s house by a little after 7:00. We finally made it home about a quarter to 10.
Great day and great ride. It was fun to be with some really great people.

Meers, Oklahoma

551.3 miles later......

I ate the whole Meer's Burger.
Meerspanb.jpg

And didn't leave any room for cobbler, not even ice cream.
Sorry, but protein in the form of lean fresh ground Longhorn was a bit more appetizing (and needed). It. Was. Delicious.

There were more than two dozen bikes there before I got in the door. All those holes were filled with more bikes and there were many more parked across the way. Mostly cruisers, two Ducatis, a matching pair of Goldwings, two Burgman scooters, and a limping V-strom.

My planned excursions were curtailed due to bike problems (wasn't sure if I was going to make it home), so I spent all my time here in this wonderland at 1700 feet (above sea level) with bison, elk, Longhorns, coyotes, prairie dogs, fish, eagles...... home on the range. (even got myself a buffalo)

WWRpan1b.jpg

I'll do a ride report later and separately.

I agree Marty, That first picture in the early morning sun is a great shot. Thanks

I don't know how to put in the big pictures, so I put it on my motorcyle Photobucket site.

And anodder report...

Susan (tortuga) and I met with several other riders at the Minyards off I20 in SW Arlington a few minutes before 7:00 AM. Soozy (Soozy) and Stever (Teryxer) and Wendy (wendy and steve) were already there.

You have heard of the Cone-heads? Well, here Steve and Wendy disguise themselves as traffic cones...
cones_5759q.JPG

(I think these jackets do that to you) :-P

We were joined by a group of three from Bedford, seen here gassing up
minyards_5758q.JPG

This was:
Dan (DFW Dano)
Kelly (Skull of Energy)
Mark (tuckertaft)

The dress of the day was DayGlo but the Bedford group apparently did not get the memo.
minyards_5760q.JPG

Did I mention that it was a bit nippy? Like 42 degrees? There hadn't been enough time to get used to cold temps yet, so we (me, at least) were eyeing the sun coming up to the left as we rode south, hoping it would add a few British Thermal Units to the air.

We took a quick stop in Blum (north of Whitney) to warm up a bit. Here is the temp gauge on Steve and Wendy's Beemer:
temp_5764q.JPG

We stopped again in Valley Mills for petrol and a pit stop. Then it was a mad dash down 317 and 95 towards Hutto. The nice short stretch of 29 and 1660 at the end was the best part of the ride, I think. Thanks, Kurt! :thumb:

We arrived just a bit late and lots of folks were already there:
bikes_5766q.JPG

and more were arriving as we were dismounting and looking around.
Eventually, it looked like this:
bikes_folks_0011q.JPG

bikes_folks_0012q.JPG

As folks started to get hungry and go inside, we found some people we knew:

This is Dave (terrebandit). He moved from East Texas to Austin and I had not seen him for a while...
dave_5769q.JPG

Now, here is what happens when you forget and leave your camera at Phil's (pkiser) and Steve's (RockmanTx) table
phil_steve_5768q.JPG

They also got a photo of Steve (Seahog) and Veronica (Shehog - not sure if she likes that screen-name)
folks_5770q.JPG

After Phil graciously returned my camera, here is a shot at our end of the table
table_5772q.JPG

That's Wendy, Steve, Soozy, and Ed (Grumpy)

And Kelly and Mark took to the food, too
kelly_mark_5771q.JPG

Everyone finally filtered back outside where it was actually starting to get hot! :eek2: :sun:
Squeaky organized a group picture of the TWT admins and moderators in attendance:

d70_5777q.JPG

d70_5779q.JPG

Kinda like herding cats. The faces are Scott (Tourmeister), Rusty (Woodbutcher), Chuck (Gilk51), Matt (STrider), Kurt (kurt), and Rebecca (Squeaky). We tried to get Beth (Blue Bomber) over but she was too busy with the kiddos.

A found Dave again as he was about to ride off
dave_5785q.JPG

And Fray Adjacent (didn't get or forgot his real name  )
fray_5791q.JPG

I counted at least 3 scooters of various types there.

Next to Fray was Fred (Red Brown)
red_5794q.JPG

This 80s vintage Yamaha got a lot of attention
d70_5789q.JPG

It is always interesting to see what Kurt will be riding - a Buell Ullyses today
kurt_buell_5782q.JPG

And the two yellow Whee Stroms were popular - maybe Kathy (ladyrider) on the right might end up on one. :trust:
yelloe_wees_5795q.JPG

(resistance is futile :borg: )

Finally, everyone got going to their next destination or event. Now, here is an adventuresome couple riding 2-up on a KTM:
ktm_2up_5793q.JPG

Wendy and Steve took off to Waco to do some shopping and the rest of our little group pretty much did our route in reverse up to Cleburne and I35W. Then we split up, most heading for home, and Soozy heading to the Pacman and Ms. Pacman party.

I passed Janet on the way home - she was headed for the party, too.

Susan and I didn't last long - we were pooped and went to bed early...

All in all, a great time with the good folks from TWT...

When did Dave move to Austin? I missed that.

When did Dave move to Austin? I missed that.

Don't 'member 'xactly, but I think a year or so ago. He said that he was just now recovering from the move from Whitehouse (near Tyler). He and his wife are looking around Austin, mainly on the south side.

Dave works for the Parks Dept (fish and stuff) and they changed his spawning grounds.
