Had to make a trip to Phx, to check on my rental. But this gave me an excuse to ride with some good friends at MM11.5 just west of Lake Pleasant.
Took the southern route from Santa Fe, which took us through Hatch, so I had to get some Hatch Chile's!
Crossing into AZ!!
Heading into the Boulders OHV area, originally called MM11.5.
Getting camp setup.
The first night was beautiful, but this was just the calm before the storm.
The next morning, one of my good friends Spanky and I head out in search of the Cholla Loop, and this is the beginning of a long technical rocky arroyo, and before the weather took a turn for the worse.
Taking a break, as one was needed. Kinda forgot how technical riding this area can be!
At the top of a long downhill!
We rode the rest of the morning, but decided to call it for the day, as the rain had begun and more friends were showing up with food and drink.
After a mostly sleepless night due to a crazy winter storm, that included thunder storms, high winds, hail and some damage to our awning and an ez-up. My friends showed up with coffee and some breakfast burritos to get me motivated.
Where's Steph?
All accounted for!
Mrs Spanky!
My good friend Kyle a.k.a. "Spanky".
And another good friend, and fellow Texan, Patrick.
Taking a break, to discuss the fact that snow was falling in the desert!
Patrick making his way up a long rocky uphill climb.
The one positive aspect of the storm is the trails were in great shape, and with new shoes on the bike the hookup was stellar!
The views are beautiful in the desert after a storm!
Steph making her way down a tricky downhill that includes and inverted drop off!
But she finishes it with no issues!
And leads the way for the boys!
While following a very tight arroyo, we met up with a herd of wild horses, and I got a little to close when I got boxed in with them!
One of the more technical arroyos.
But the day did not end without some carnage!
It was a great two days of riding, but due to the weather we decided to end the camping and get a hotel room!
